G'day,
Does anyone here with an LC and GTR style steering wheel have trouble getting in the drivers seat? I know they are quite big but i can barely squeeze my legs under it. And im worried that, with a few corners, it is going to friction burn a hole in my pants. Any suggestions on how to fix? Is my seat too tall perhaps (LJ XU1 seats)?

Agree with Gene, large wheel, offset column, small car
May also have something to do with your column angle having been moved for V8
Post 17 there are some pics and measurements from my car It is running a corvette wheel with less dish than genuine but same diameter I think
What are your measurement from wheel to floor an wheel to seat base?

Big in the important places, Blair. By that i mean legs, which are very important for sports and regular walking duties.
Gene, yes and no. I cant imagine they came out of the factory squashing your legs down, somethings not right here.
And simon i think you are right, my column is not offset, probably something to do with it. Ill get measurements tomorrow. The wheel has been pearled so im not sure if it could have had the band replaced with a larger diameter one?>

LC has a different GTR steering wheel to LJ onwards gtr/gts/slr. Same as the earlier Monaro wheel I think.i always thought the gtr/gts wheels where smaller than standard?
The main difference I found swapping from standard wheel to GTR wheel in my old LJ was that the GTR wheel was actually round, not oval like the standard one.

I'm 6', and played in the front row of a rugby scrum for many years, so don't have exactly small legs, and I have no clearance issues at all between the steering wheel and my legs in my LC XU1. It does sound like the column could be too low, but I didn't think you could bolt it up unless it is in the correct position?

Sounds good, where the colum is bolted on the floor can make a difference to the angle of the column and the clearance

Blocks are out Bruce but it's gone from a big squeeze to a little squeeze. Noticed the legs have to holes can't remember which was used. Might use the first one and see of that pushes it back more than it already is.
And yes the seat is all the way back. Not something you can't live with but it is prompting me to change wheels and the only other one I have is lj GTR.

Hi Jacob
Is the wheel that you are using the black vinyl or the imitation wood rim type? I believe that they were slightly different in diameter.
Cheers

Doesn't look like you have a lot of room there for your legs. Are your seats mounted on packing blocks? or maybe it's the bolstering of the LJ GTR seats or both.

No packing blocks. Most likely the seats being a bit fatter perhaps?

Hi Jacob
I have 140mmm bottom of wheel to seat (S seat in the car at the moment), but seat is also not bolted down, so additional 30mm from floor to bottom of seat runner.
170mm all up. My wheel is corvette, slightly smaller than GTR at 15.5 inch and 2.75 inch dish , that is less that GTR wheel, as far as I know,
Can you post up a pic of the column mounted at firewall please?
Regards Simon
