With my 74 GTS Monaro it did not have the original QT engine but using my tag info Ben was able to provide the engine no. AOMC was then able to give me the original registration and first registration date.
The AOMC service only happens for Vic registered cars and cosst $75

That looks very flash Brad.

So an M21 Aussie 4spd is called a High Performance gearbox :blink2:. Learn something new every day.

I'm curious. Did you actually learn anything more than you already knew about your Torana?

Cheers

Dave.

No, didnt learn anything that I didnt already know. When I contacted GMH when I first bought the car and got one of there Authenticity letters, I was told all of the above info. But anyways, it may help some people out. Something else to stick in the glovebox for the new owner to have a read of.

Edit: I didnt know that City Auto Sales had a privileged link with GMH though!

The original owner always maintained it was a special order car and the salesman at the time told him it was the only LH SL/R 5000 in its particular colour/trim combo.

Yeah so if I can get my original engine number, Bazza can probably find out my VIN, which means I can then find some more history.

Waiting to hear back from Ben, but it is the weekend, so may not hear until next week.

That is what it is called in some GMH literature. I'll find it when I get a chance.

Craig, I could be wrong, however, I reckon Ben would need the VIN number to find your engine number (if it was recorded).

Out of interest here's the ACCHS report that's available for fords here in Aust.
The guy who does this also wanted to do Holden reports, but he was struggling to get the info needed.

Like you Brad, it didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know except that the car is a 1 off. I had been told this but had no hard proof until this report was available.

What it also guarantees you for some cars (LH-LX being one of them) is the body (in the case of some HQ-HZ Holdens the chassis) and hence the chassis number and ADR plate belongs to the other tags. This is something you would not already know, and Holden cannot tell you.

So in theory, you could find out what build a car was from the chassis number?

Byron, I take it then that the Vehicle Master Lists (or some of them, depending on model) that Ben has also have all the chassis numbers recorded?

No, but for some assembly plants at some times the chassis to PSN or PSN to BODY number was able to be figured out. I discovered it after collection thousands of Sandman ID. Some of it requires tens of thousands of cars to be recorded due to gaps in the sequences (example Elizabeth bodies sent to Pagewood and Dandenong assembly plants). As far as I know the chassis numbers were never recorded in the GMH mainframe.

So basically then if a person didn't provide their chassis number when requesting a Production Verification Certificate from HHS no chassis number would be able to be 100% positively guaranteed provided by HSS.

As far as I am aware, unless all vehicle details are provided there would be no PVC provided. This would be to stop people re-creating a car's identity. I'm sure that this situation would be rare, as the car's original chassis number exists on the ADR plate. The number you are most likely to be missing which would stop you getting a PVC is the original engine number.

For some vehicles you can figure out what the chassis number was originally. Most LH-LX are like this. Some HQ-HZ are as well.

Where've you been hiding Adam?! :-)

Have you heard of Warren Turnbull? Norm Darwin?

Ben is co-author of the Monaro Facts/Story with Warren Turnbull.

He also helped Norm to a new eidtion on Monaro Magic to create the Platinum Edition. And also helped Norm with Torana Tough (read the acknowledgements section).

He did a lot of work for AMC too, especially the 'by the numbers" section, and did the AMC ID Handbook. The most recent AMC work was the last edition with the article on the anniversary of the Pontiac GTO and how it influenced Australia's foray into the hipo factory cars.
