Hey totally understand bomber............. if you ride a harley you'd need a ute to pick it up when it breaks down ...
seriously I don't give a fuk what you or anyone else buys, I myself would only buy a Commodore out of the Holden range... the rest are very average in my opinion....
Its an 05 model, hasnt broken down yet lol.
I was more putting foward the point that even though generally i dont have to, with the current vehicle i can.
Hell i can put the big bike, the KZ400 and the CB125 in the back, hook the car trailer up, throw the J on it, and stick a mate in the passenger seat and cruise to a car/bike show without having to orchestrate people driving/riding all of my shit.
Try to do that in a commy ute......
Cheers.

I saw a tv ad for bunnings and they were advertising a pedestal electric fan for $12.... Now i know its a "loss leader" but they won lose on it.... Maybe make a smallrofit.... Think of the amount of parts in that fan that have to be produced, assembled, tested, packaged, shpped to the dock, loaded onto a. Ship.... Sailed to oz..... Unloaded and taken to their bulk warehouse, despatched and transported to the final store somewhere in australia.... Put on the shelf waiting for someone to buy a pedestal electric fan for $12..... The only one not making any money is the workers in overseas countries on ridiculously low wages..... Living in crap conditions just so they can feed their families.....
Grow a set of balls you union reps and stand up for all workers and wemight not be in as bad a state as our manufacturin industry is today

Why would the unions do anything of substance when they wont lose their job.
People are conned so easily, they don't give a shit because the unions wont lose their job. They go and leach some other company until its blood supply dries out.

Sure unions have issues.
So do corporates.
Last time I checked, the workers at Holdens copped a 'no pay rise'for a few years to help keep the joint open.
Its true, its just the way the world is these days, the inertia of it is hard to stop.
everyone wants to earn $1500 a week, but also expects to go to Bun..gs and get a grinder for $19......is just cant last.
Its a fools paradice to think Ï am worth $xxx, but those asian buggers are only worth $xxxx/10
Holdens going is a VERY significant thing...its like a wake up call...but I think it wont be heard.
Yes yes the typical Aussie said as he heard of Holden's demise.....its a bloody shame...but did I tell you I got my missus a
new Hyuandia What-ever XXLS, only $12999 drive away..and look at my new Miele kitchen and my new Bosch coffee machine...and wow, didnt I have a good time in Bali on my holidays...and hey, did I tell you I got a part for my Torana off Ebay that was made in China , but was 1/4 the price of the Aussie made one?...and what about that garden shed I just put up,made in the Philipines ,
but shit, it was only $35.
etc etc etc etc etc ....who's fault is it?

Car manufacturing is highly contested turf. Nations compete against one another to ensure that their workers produce vehicles – as it is deemed to be in their national interest.
Co-investment from the Australian government pales in comparison with the investment of other nations with automotive industries. In per capita terms, Australia invests $US18 per annum. Compare this to the $US330 in Sweden, $US260 in the USA and $US95 in Germany.
On the back of these numbers, Australia's investment provides tremendous value for money in relative international terms.
Australia's served well by co-investment. It provides skilled jobs, quality cars and places Australia as a world leader in manufacturing, science and technology. And despite the opinions expressed by some, it does come with reciprocal commitments.
In the case of GM Holden, the recent $275 million co-investment provided by our Government drew a commitment from GM to invest $1 billion in its Australian operations and maintain a presence for at least another decade. Similarly at Ford, the recent co-investment is already being put to use to design more fuel efficient models and Ford have committed to remaining here at least till 2016.

Hope when Holden shut the doors in 2017, they pass on there Archive info to someone like Norm Darwin etc, so the info is not lost like the stuff for the older Holden's seems to be.
AL
You will find Holden have quite a bit of their archive right here at the Mortlock Library , situated in the State Library of South Australia, they would no doubt have plenty of stuff at Elizabeth and Port Melbourne, I am sure this will all be preserved....

Yep agree Mark ... Go out and have a look how many holden's are in the driveway other than the Torana's we own .. I bet most of your daily drives are Jap....
So true. One of the things that hasn't been mentioned a lot is government policies that actively work against local manufacturers. Go down to your local govt agency and their fleet will now be Hyundai's etc due to mandated fuel efficiency targets. I am a public servant, when I chose to salary sacrifice my daily driver (I pay 100% of the car) I wanted to get an SS but was told 'no V8's' - FFS it is my money I will buy what I want! Lost the argument ended up getting an imported car...

I heard the "no pay rise" was bullshit. It didn't follow through, they got there rise while GM was going backwards.

Once Holdens could no longer agree they WOULDNT bail, then the agreement ceased, and the payrise was paid.
Whatever..its still a sad day.

I carry 2 bikes in my VS ute pretty often. VU or later I probably wouldn't. My 4 cars are Australian, none of them less than 15 years old though.
A relative just bought a near new Hyundai and it's #@$^%& up in a major way, still under warranty but Hyundai wont validate it because a non-approved battery has been fitted to it. The only service manual available for it is in Korean. That said, I have known brand new Holdens (Aus and Asian ones) to breakdown before their first service, but they did get fixed without a hassle.

The word the Holden ceo used really summed up my impression of the whole new car market over the past decade or so and that is The New Car Market is Extremely Fragmented.
I also enjoyed Sky Business saying when the $A to $US was at 0.47c to 0.50c Holden was a very profitable company. One would bloody hope so at that rate.
According to Holden and GM this decision is totally irreversible.
Christ is going to be bloody strange having no car manufacturing after all these decades. You have to wonder how long they will re-badge / re-brand GM product before the elimination of the Holden name since no product remains and cost of re-brand is just money off the bottom line.

THE CEO OF DOWNER/EDI ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK THAT ALL MAJOR BUILD OF RAIL CARRIAGES WILL BE BUILT IN CHINA AFTER SIGNING A CONTRACT WITH THEM.SO NO AUTO INDUSTRY AND NO RAIL-CAR INDUSTRY.WE HAVE HEARD ABOUT 200 JOBS TO GO NEXT YEAR JUST IN THIS PLANT.YES WE HAVE A NOT TO BAD WAGE DEAL BECAUSE UNIONS HAVE BEEN INVOLVED BUT WHY IS IT THAT I STILL WORK OVER 50 HRS A WEEK JUST TO SURVIVE,THE COST OF LIVING IS UP EVERY DAY.BUT WHAT PISSES ME OFF IS CEO,S GETTING PAID MILLIONS WHILE THE WORKER GETS THE ARSE.THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS BASED ON GREED,POLLIES SELLING ASSETS TO FINANCE THERE STUFF-UPS THEN IT,S ALL ABOUT THE SHARE-HOLDERS RETURN AT WHAT-EVER IT TAKES TO MAKE MORE NEXT YEAR. THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS STUFFED AND IT STARTED WHEN WE SOLD THE COMMONWEALTH BANK,NO COMPETITION FOR MONEY AND WHAT IS TODAYS WORLD BASED ON (MONEY).OUR FORE-FATHERS MADE THE CONSTITUTION TO PROTECT US FROM WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW BUT WE LET THE POLLIES LOOSE. WE ARE ALL AT FAULT IN SOME WAY,I OWN A MAZDA3 BECAUSE MY LAST COMMODORE S WAS SHIT AND HOLDEN COULD,NT SORT IT. A WAR WILL SORT IT ALL OUT BUT WE WON,T WIN THIS TIME,NO GUNS,IT,S ALL PART OF THE PLAN UNLESS SOMEHOW WE STOP IT.(PEOPLE POWER) .EVIL PREVAILS WHEN GOOD PEOPLE DO NOTHING.

It's a bit difficult to read in upper case, why are you shouting ? But you do make a couple of valid points.
However you are missing the main one, manufacturing in Australia cannot survive the current unionised environment. Have you seen some of their ridiculous claims. A mate of mine was until recently working at the train factory in Auburn (is it Maintrans ??). I couldn't believe his take home pay & some of his conditions. Makes working in the real world so frustrating.
Have a look at the current kerfuffle at Toyota in Melbourne currently. They're on strike because management wants to limit sickies without a medical certificate to 5 days, from the current 8. Come on guys sickies are an Aussie tradition (the boss always pays), or should they be ?
