Interesting comments on the riding gear.

Heard about a study done for I think ACT Police on riders clothing.

Apart from the leather jacket, everything the cops wear has a durability in a slide on the road of less than 1 sec.

And during good weather most cops dont wear the leather jacket.

Just some observations locally.

Standard riding attire for Jap bikes is thongs shorts and singlets. Only ones wearing jackets long pants seem to be tourers.

Standard riding attire for Harleys is jeans (perhaps kevlar. prob not) Shoes or boots and long sleeves on the arms.

There are the odd Harley riders in shorts and short sleeve shirts

Open face helmets pretty much exclusive on Harleys, but occassional Harley with full face.

I have open and full face helmets and prefer open face. The bluntness and lack of aerodynamics is better to me than my head being moved around by the full face. On long trips the full face comes along for rainy times. Rain is a bugger with the open face because of the pain but mainly not being able to see properly.

Sorry Dave about the sterotype bit.....  yeah i guess i was having a bit of a dig, but more so about most of my friends, and not you guys on here.....and your right, it should always be a matter of choice, what you ride and what you wear.......  cheers mate..

I know we've steered this a bit off track.......  but i did find this because of the discussion .....  makes pretty interesting reading... but the pure fun, way out ways the risk..... I think   :spoton: anyway check this link out...

I agree mate, its all good fun, sorry if my comment this morning was a bit harsh.

At the end of the day if we were all the same the world would be boring, perhaps, i like to think that if we were all the same we would al lhave a fascination with GM supercharged 202's running mechanical injection and methanol, and as such there all legal and we all drive them, that would be cool.....

Cheers.

Mine used to, mainly due to poor set up. Big cube engine with fork legs a tad too long and it was actually hard to keep it down.
One of my other ones came up about 6-8 inches and would hold it through power from first through to third. Made people's jaw drop when taking off from the lights.
Also had a mate that could stand his Dyna up no problem! Again big cubes

Grant, i watched a video of two massively obese blokes popping a wheelie on some ultraglide/roadking looking thing. Wow that was interesting. Also, i wanted to ask you if you had any SE or similar brand exposed conical air intakes that i could get you to get some measurements from? Thanks mate

I saw one of those on an 'american restorations' show. Would be a cool kit, any idea on the vintage?

Yeah grant but mine will be the type you dont use as a joust, lol. Is that a K&N filter underneath? I wanted to know what diameter pipe i need to weld up and lengths. Also have to work out a flange as the one i have is plastic.

This is a bike I'm working on at the moment. He got defected for the sharp petrusions. His hand and foot controls were points also. Oh well, each to their own I guess.

I have made my own before. Measure the throat on your carby. You need to buy a mandrel bend with that inside diameter at the least. Then weld a ring onto it to mount it. Need to be careful though cause some/most of the time the original air cleaner holds the carby in place. Carby to manifold is only a rubber ring.
Anyway, then you go to Autobarn or even Supercheap, and buy a K and N filter to suit. Then you need to connect the breathers to the intake pipe, Orr buy the little filters that hang down like the ones in the photo above.
I will get some photos to explain myself properly tomorrow.

No that made perfect sense. I need a mandrel bend which is the id of the throat. Then I can obviously cut to length. The thing is, will the thread diameter be close to what I'd find off the shelf in k&n? Are the filters small enough because every other brand is the large pod type.

As for the mounting you are right, perhaps it won't work after all? At least not without compromising looks?

You can all different sizes of K and N filter. Go to their web site and check them out.
Photos later for mounts and brackets

Oh I can see how that flange has carb mount brackets built onto it, that's clever..

From these pics you will get the idea. Head breathers, carby bracket and air cleaner.
Any question just yell out.

Hope these help

I agree. This filter is in need of changing but that's not why I've got it. I built the bike back in 2007, sold it in 2008 and it's still in my name. It's back to be made roadworthy and get it into his name. Almost done.
Gave me some grief tough. The ignition gave up so I had no spark. It took me a while to diagnose cause it would give spark intermittently, no fun to be had there. He also thought its good idea to cut the wires to the speedo and remove it completely. Left live wires cut and going to nowhere. What I nightmare.
Oh well, almost finished now anyway

I decided to go way against the grain and brought one of these for mine.

http://www.summitrac...-1209/overview/

Still have yet to bother making brackets and the like to fit it though.

Not sure if im going to keep the edelbrock top or spin a new one up out of alloy, but would give you an idea.

Cheers.
