Back then it did. Cars had to be presented at the rego branch. Not like now where the dealers are handed a box full of rego plates.Rego has nothing to do with the rules governing used car lots, do you really think they're going to maintain 50 rego's?

I wasn't aware of this thread, makes for some informative reading.
I have a second cousin who is a legend in the interstate transport game and in Truck Racing. Back in the day, Im talking mid to late 70s, early 80s, he owned a red LJ GTR XU1 with a 308 in it. He told it was one of the original Firth cars and these are the details I can recall (albeit some are sketchy as I was only a kid):
- Number plate was LJ308 (his fiancee at the time worked at the old MRB and got the plates for him). A year or so ago, I saw a red 6 Cyl LJ for sale on Market Place with those plates but they were green and white garden state plates. His were black and white but they must have been the same plates.
- If I recall correctly, he bought the car from a bloke in Sydney but it was registered in Canberra as it couldn't be registered in Sydney (could be the other way around but some thing like that).
- One feature I recall was it had twin dump pipes on both sides at the rear (ie 4 exhaust tips in total).
- I was only a kid but I remember seeing under the bonnet once I have this recollection of trumpets (like a multiple webber set up). I might be dreaming this but this is what I have always had in my mind.
- I dont recall seeing twin fuel fillers on the guards, I have only just learnt of the this feature reading this thread but I will ask him about it next time I see him. It would be easy for him to remember it it had them or not.
- I have a picture of a picture which he sent me years ago, it's as blurry as hell and not point posting it on here as you cant tell any detail that would tell you its a GTR XU1 let alone a V8.
- He lived around North Carlton and sold the car when he got married (needed the money), some of you might remember this thing getting around back in the day. If you did see it, I can just about guarantee you it was going fast has he was pretty crazy back in the day.
It sounded mean as and I loved this thing and have always wanted a V8 LJ or LC since. I finally have one now.
Interested to hear your thought.
I am recalling these details best I can, at the time I was just a kid and knew nothing about GTR XU1s, "XU2s" etc. other than I wanted one when I grew up.
