Its a shame that GMH has always tried to cover this up.

Plus still covering up models today that where made in the last 10 yrs.

Wonder if it comes down thru GM itself.

Came across this in my travels. Don't know if it will shed any more light on the subject or just add to the debate.

The 'Styling" LJ XU1 V8 , this pic of the car on the roof of the Styling building at Fishermans Bend in the early part of 1972.

Painted in a one off colour known as 'Barney's Shirt ' the car also featured a 3 piece rear spoiler at a 45 deg. angle , a ful length Hood scoop on a blacked out hood and partial fender and nose blacked out as well . it also featured grill mounted spotlights the same as the yellow car and large XU1 decals just behind the headlight bezels on the front fenders and 5 spoke mags , hustler style .....

The car left GMH ownership in July of 1974 , some 2 1/2 years after being completed on 19/1/72 .

The car also has a number of modifications which were described to me by Harry Firth , modified boot floor , 1"spacers between the gearbox X-member and body , large hole where the shifter comes through the floor ( to the left and to the rear it has been cut/ "hacked " out with the lhs of the tunnel also being Massaged with a "Knockrometer" . He was also adament this was also a "Mule " for the V8 LJ Project.....

The car still exists ...

Yeah it's the Barney Shirt LJ XU1 Styling V8 Car, part of the V8 LJ Program as well.

13" N71 wheels on the sedan - never seen those before. I wonder what the significance of the yellow car is? V8 SL sedan?

It's a shame GM-H didn't offer a sports option pack for the 82569.

I noticed that the yellow car has a black grille and black outs around the bottom and non std wheels so perhaps there's more going on with that car than expected at first glance.

Where is the bonnet and nose cone on the pink car? I think someone has played with the picture.

Interesting the Yellow 4-Door, maybe a V8 SL.  its funny it is sharing the Spotlight with Barney and Barney is wearing its Cosmetic Kit that Leo wanted on the V8 Cars.

Yeah, GTR style black decorative paintouts, totally black grille, spotlights and silver wheels with GTR chrome trim rings, centre caps and wheel nuts.

Ok, I see what you mean. Looked like GTR wheel trims and centre caps. Zooming in I can now see the wire spoke design you speak of.

A friend found this one, the Engine by the reporter is under power figures, it was around 300 HP and not the standard 240HP, as the XW7 Donk had a Big Cam and same Crank Shaft assembly as the L34 as L34 and L34 HO used the same crank shaft assembly and the XW7 Engine, The XW7 Engine had the same Valve Springs as the HO L34 Engine.

Just out of interest or for anyone doing research on the subject,

I have tracked the seller of this car to 6 Chambers street South Yarra.

That's only 500m away from Holmesford at 402 Chapel street.

The 478 number is somewhere in Preston.

I spoke to Ian Wansley about this car 3 years ago.  He knew the history of the car and how special it was.

Spoke to Ian Wansley my self a few times, Ian lived in Toorak when he put that Ad in the Newspaper, the Car is a LJ and not a LC, that is a Typo, yet he has no photos of the car or a Vic rego number, Vic Roads can't find the Car without a rego number. There is the other Ad he did as well, that has LJ. Don't know how Ian knows there is Six LJ's when there was only 3-LJ GTR's and 1-LJ XU1 (The Styling XU1) that makes 4. Ian says his mate who was a Boss out at Lang Lang and bought the Car and sold it to him, so proves they sold them in V8 Format. That Ad was in the Age Newspaper in 1974, Rego runs out in June 1974, so rego start June 1973, Ian told me it had V8 rego when he bought it off his mate.

Referring to an older post in this thread Al, Ewe't wasn't the Sandman prototype, those were 12/72 ute and van, the van still lives, I saw it in Victoria last year. The Ewe't was something else, not certain what as yet. It may be the concept vehicle for a sports utility but that tag could also be pinned to the Be-Ute.

It was wrecked in the 80's. I have a photo of what it looked like before the crash.

Well that explains why the EWET has not shown up then.
