on the front of the dash there are the 1 hole for brake light , upper

If you do a search, there is a thread with photos somewhere in the LC/LJ section from memory. [Not sure what you mean by the 120mph speedo; all XU1's had that (your topic states you are referring to GTR XU1 dashes)].

Since this instrument panel has been mentioned, can someone definitively say how the highlights around the instruments were finished on the LC only? Photos in a brochure I have of a 1970 GTR seems to indicate these highlights were chromed, like the big Holdens. Does anyone know if that was the case, or were they finished in silver highlights like the LJ, (and as per restoration work done by Dash Original these days)? Thanks.

I can't give you a 100% answer, but I've never seen one that looks like it was chromed, and when it wears off it doesn't peel off, it wears like paint.

Yeah, that is what has me confused. I have seen a NOS lower dash that has the highlights chromed, and the photo in the brochure indicates the instrument surrounds are chromed. However, brochures can be misleading. And as you say, the highlight on the instrument panel cracks off like paint.

But maybe it is a trick of the brochure??

Yeah I see what you mean it certainly does look chromed but they haven't given the same treatment to the knob surrounds or the edge on the console.

Maybe its a trick of the light?

My GTR Dash is a LJ type as it has the screw holes in the bottom,,,,in the pic above it's the Top Right dash.

It does have the mounting clamps like the LC. I've always wondered why I could never put screws in so I could mount the bottom.

Learned something new here after having the car since 2006 with previous owner fitting the GTR Gauges

Hi Gooley

With the LJ, 2 of these gizmos clip into recesses in the bottom part of the dash opening. The screws going in from the front of the cluster then have something to purchase into.

Cheers

OK thank you for that Bazza... I'll see what I can actually use....I'm not actually fussed with it... but at least I know now what to look for and use if I ever come a cross one

Hey, the instruments were originally vacuum metallised or essentially sprayed on aluminium so giving a chrome look when new and when fading looking a bit like paint as it didnt have any auxiliary coating to protect it.
