G'day All

Caught this on yahoo just now

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is in a critical condition in a Grenoble hospital after suffering head injuries in a skiing accident in France.

French television station BFMTV and local paper Le Dauphine Libere reported on Sunday the condition of the record seven-times F1 champion has deteriorated.

Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm had earlier confirmed the 44-year-old German sustained head injuries from the accident in Meribel.

The seven-time German world champion, who reportedly owns property at the resort, was skiing off-piste with other skiers.

A specialist neurosurgeon from Paris has been brought in to oversee treatment of the 44-year-old German in the hospital in the southeastern city of Grenoble.

Race at the top level for years and have some mighty big crashes - yet a ski accident puts him in such a dangerous coma.

Head injuries ..... its just a small hit to the right spot and its all over.

Best wishes to Schumacher and his family as he is a mighty driver, a great talent and just way too young to go yet.

Today's paper say's that the next 48 hours will tell if Michael survives and the Doctor after a second surgery say's that they are happy with the results.

A witness to Michael's fall, said that his helmet split into two and were full of blood. Dave I

These bs media reports, what a crook of S#it. He was trying to help someone who went over the edge, when he did he slipped and struck his head slicing the helmet. Nothing to do with speed, just shows how much the media like a beat-up story.

Sounds at least like some glimmer vs the other few bad days. All about the brain swelling and keeping it down as much as possible (temp). With someone up stairs watching out for him I hope he makes a full recovery as he is far too young. I would give both testies to be his age again.

Yes seems, I wasn't anything speed related, something new for him, just trying to help a mate,

Its heartening to see that whether or not people are Schumacher fans just about everyone is making positive comments and are hoping for his complete speedy recovery. This is opposed to  elements of the foreign media who have turned rabid during press conferences which has caused distress to the family. Its a shame these idiots don't realise that all we want is a factual account of his condition and prognosis. Quite rightly there will no more comment from the family and only the occasional update from the hospital. Its good to see someone saying to the fringe media "get stuffed".

That's the first time I've heard what actually happened.

99% of these reporters wouldn't know the truth if it kicked them in the face.

Michael Schumacher may never come out of his coma. The retired Formula One legend, 44, who suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident at a French Alps resort on Dec. 29, has been in a medically induced, unconscious state for 18 days.

The fears for his future are being fueled by German publications that have interviewed brain injury experts whose forecasts are dire.

According to the experts, a patient who is put in an artificial coma, which helps the brain recover more quickly, is usually brought out of it after one to two weeks. Schumacher, who also had surgery on his skull to relieve cranial pressure caused by brain swelling, reportedly has not recovered enough to make doctors plan to wake him. The longer a coma lasts, the greater the damage it indicates, and it is possible that Schumacher could remain in that state for the rest of his life.

Well I just did a google search for new on Michael and there is no news just lots of media speculation that coma could be for the rest of his life, so folks it is just that media speculation, to drum up magazine sales and Internet traffic. Nothing worth listening too

Agreed the media beat every thing up or down with regularity. Many things reported by any media source is pretty close to the same accuracy as believing a talking politician.

But common sense tells you that he has been a hell of a long time in a coma without positive signs (and that's never a good thing). His family no doubt will make a formal statement when the indisputable facts are known. Forgeting his ill fated comeback his career and skill level has been amazing and had Seb not come along his records would have lasted a long long time.

This was my mate Luke George, after a crash that almost took his life,  he was in a coma for 10 days.  Dr's said it was his fitness that went a long way in helping his recovery (and hopefully it will be the same for Micheal Schumacher)..  I was training Luke 10 months after this interview for the 2010 Motocross & Supercross season. You can see how slow his speech was in that interview, compared to later interviews.  Luke has now fully recovered, but he has a slightly different personality than before the crash. ( he is much more straight forward with his comments now)..  anyways it is possible to come out of a Coma and be able to return to a normal life, and lets hope this is the same for Schumacher....
