Hi there,

Can you guys please help me with this one. I'm hoping to buy an LX but it has no tags. The chassis number is stamped on the inner guard. The car has been off the road for 10 years and the original owner has passed away so the car is being sold by a family member. No paperwork available either.

I want to register the car in WA and I'm unsure what to do really. Any help would be much appreciated.

Can I do a chassis number check online? Will this number give me any details about the car?

Hi

You can search on line with the government Personal Properties Securities Register (PPSR) This system takes the place of the old REVs checks from the various state authorities.

I checked my Chassis Number to see if it worked and it worked fine - it cost a couple of dollars from memory.

The results say nothing about the car other than whether it is registered, has been written off or whether there are any financial encumbrances.

Cheers

Bazza

Thanks for the info Bazza. Im also thinking of taking my car overseas when I move home to Europe. I wonder if I'll run into problems without ID tags?

To hijack this thread with my own similar question...

If you had the chassis number, is there a person or place who could tell you what the car was when it left the factory, ie. what color, engine, year, luxury level etc it was?

I know computers were not used when these toranas were built, but is there a record somewhere? Is it available to joe public?

I managed to glean all this info from licensing yesterday.(Like extracting teeth) I confirmed it is an LH, manual, petrol, 1975, green torana when registered. It first registered as 1118kg, then like us all gained a few  at its next rego, 1168kg wieght. Thats all I seem destined to know, but would have liked a copy of its tags to see if i had an slr or gpack or if it was worth restoring, or just going nuts on.

Well the original engine number is the only bit of PPSR info I do not have. It has no engine now, guy said it used to have a 186 before they took it out so i guess it has had a couple changes over the years.

The chassis number is BLH056874M if that reveals anything else about the car. Does the B mean something or is it random.

I guess if it is impossible to track its history, then i will just go to town on it and feel slightly guilty that i may be butchering a genuine SLR.

The car is an LH built in Melbourne, others here may shed more light on it.

So all I got was the latest rego details. Poor records in this day and age. Found out previously on the phone that it had its plates handed in 1999, then registered again in 2000. PLates handed in again in 2006, and unregistered since then. It is purple now, but was once green. A lot of results came up no data. Should ask for my $4 back. ;)

You can get a letter of authenticity from GMH based on the chassis number. However the letters often had errors regarding the options fitted.

Try the Customer Assistance Line 1800 033 349 and tell them you want a letter of authenticity.

There is also the Holden Historical Services site. See this thread.

Hanra posted the report on his LH SL/R

now thats what im talking about. just rang holden and he was a bit confused though on my chassis number. he thought it should be longer. but someone is going to call with details if found. If not I will try this other place, and hope they can do it without the other tags.

Thanks!!

I would have loved to have found my original tags for sale. However, from my research (no luck with holden or historical service) I looked at the evidence of what badges it had (by holes in panels) and what badges it never had (no holes in panels) and came to the 99% conclusion it is just a 8UG69 4cyl 1900 model.

Oh well I shall go to town and not feel guilty for performing hideous repair attempts on it, in my practice for the real thing.
