As some of you are aware that about a third of the L34,s left the factory with the 3.08 diff ratio. These cars had a unique gear ratio set up in the gearbox. This being a special input shaft and cluster giving them a 2.32 to 1 first gear. Exchange gearboxes where unknowing owners have finished up with normal 2.54 boxes or unavailability of these parts have led to the loss of their originality. These spares have dried up years ago or telephone no,s wanted for them. We were approached over the weekend by a guy who has an original set of gears brand new and is or owns a company (aussie) whose business is making gears even one offs for ships or anything so no idea of cost and that would largely depend on the amount ordered.

Maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity to get these parts maybe buy 2 or 3 sets put on flea bay and make money .If interested message me email me at wayne @quine.com.au or 0417829987 text and i can get back so waiting to hear if any interest.

After 40yrs it would be interesting to see how many of those original boxes have been exchanged? Have to be worth it for genuine L34 restore where a box had been swapped.

It still amazes me that someone 40yrs after the fact still has a new gear set. Love someone who refuses to sell or throw stuff out takes real dedication. LOL

My original box has been put away because it could never be replaced

sounds like a one time go at this, so put my name down for 2 sets, these close ratio sets make the old aussie 4spd lots more durable.

plus with a 3.08 diff you can achieve 180kph in 3rd.

I had an opportunity to buy a brand new complete set a few years ago for $100, unfortunately a complete idiot bought them to fit into a mocked up car.

Will get idea on numbers then let you know of costs before you have to commit so price will depend on roughly how many so ask around.

How about the 6cyl 2.32:1 input shaft for the optional 73 XU1 gear ratios if any of the XU1 guys are interested?

I believe the cluster gear is the same for the XU1 and the L34.

Just a shorter input shaft and same cluster could help cut costs as would be able to run together.

If they go ahead I'd like a cluster & input, mine are in a gbox thats now sitting as a spare in NSW & I doubt I'd ever be lucky enough to get them back.
Craig.

No.  I have just built up another gearbox with the big bearing setup so I can put the original (along with the diff) on the shelf.
