Just thought I would start a thread where members can post recent sales or purchase prices of any make or model Torana that they know has either been sold or purchased in recent times. Some may not wish to disclose prices, that is their choice.

Pictures would be helpful to give a good indication of the vehicles condition along with a description, so that people will have an idication of what you get for your dollar.

In recent times there has been a lot of talk of the prices of our prized cars.  And they have been up and down, especially of late. People are also often requesting members appraisals. This thread may help people either looking to buy or sell a torana of any make of model. I for one am always following the prices, but in the past, have been very surprised with what some cars have sold for. And wrong in my guesstimate of a price too. This clearly indicates that there is no certantity with a cars price.  However, as has been said many times, a good car will always sell for a good price.

I hope people jump on the band wagon. I will start off with my recent hatch sale, and recent 4 door purchase.

Good idea Gerry. If we can get some decent input here this thread might be helpful enough to be promoted to sticky. I would put my car up but I bought it over 2 years ago and I think prices have gone up a bit since then.

I'll play Gez,

Home1-Tue1stMarch2011_zps447f4a12.jpg

Purchased March 2011

$9k for a 'questionable provenance' 4.2L SS half-arsed resto without gearbox, seats, interior, dash, console, rubbers, glass and too many other things to list.

Likely easier to write a list of what came with the car as opposed to what was missing...

Poor decision by me to buy but hey; live and learn :)

Engine was just a block (308)  - nothing more of any substance.

Also included rear axle: a 9 inch with 11' drums, adjustable control arms and a useless 2.75 mini-spool.

Cheers, TB

I'll see if I can find a photo of the car when I bought it because I have replaced everything on the car since then except for the paint.

Irelevant what you have replaced or done ? The orig pic, description and price is all that matters....

Hell, Martys has gone up in value in massive amounts if you look what he has done or replaced..... Not the point of the thread though..

LC GTR 1970

purchased March 2011

i paid more than I believed it was worth but justified my purchase as it had all 3 tags & the colour combination is quite rare (florentine gold metallic with Antique gold /black &white houndstooth inserts.& that was just the tags ..

It had no motor ,no gearbox & just like tyre biter ,ours had just a small box of shit /mostly unusable parts in the boot .

The body looked OK until it was blasted ,it cost almost 5 times the amount i thought it would to restore but in my eyes well worth it because i love it ….

Ofcourse its relevant. My car in pics now is different to when I first bought it. Why would I put a pic up of what it looks like now when that isnt what it was like when I bought it.

It seems it hasnt taken long for your arrogant attitude to filter back into your posts although I must admit it has taken longer than what I thought it would.

Hi Adam, I'm a bit of a monkey, swinging by rail and using tow bar, ledge and spare wheel to get up and down.

something is only worth, what someone is willing to pay

I paid  for it alright ,but all of them out there are different & not like a car that is for instance 3 years old with all of them having the average same amount of km's & condition . ,one can base an average market value on that model /year.LC GTR has a market value of about 35-40k in concourse condition (according to just cars market value 2 years ago ,it's sitting about the same now),ours is insured for quite a bit more than that ,and thats not due to modifications ,due to the quality,trim/colour combo ect. (thats what old mate at shannons told me anyway)and saying that ,if someone wanted to buy it ,I doubt i would get much more than the market value for it ,unless someone really wanted that certain colour /engine combo ……….list goes on

But buying it , being a 40 year old piece of metal with a shit load of problems /missing parts as ours was .they are all different & i believe its down to what you can negotiate ,so have a good look at it ,don't rush ,find out whats missing ,availability of new parts ,over capitalising (which we all do anyway within reason )

as Gerry says in his opening post ,he follows the prices & is surprised at what the difference in some prices/sales are, so it's hard to put a finger on it because they are all different

i don't think i'm wavering from the topic ,it's helpful information if you are buying a roller, as this thread (as it says )people may not wish to disclose how much they paid & it is also to help people who may want to buy or sell a torana and is just a little insight into my experience.

Some nice cars for sure.  But I am hoping that people are more so posting pics of cars they have either recently (last few years) bought or sold.  So pics of the condition they either bought them in or sold them in.  That is exactly what I have done.  My 4 door has changed a fair bit since posting a picture up. The picture I posted was as I bought it and after the long drive home from Melbourne.

The whole idea is to give peeps an idea of what to expect to either pay or sell a torry for with a description of the vehicle to help people get and idea of values.

Keep them coming, cheers folks.

It would also be good to see what some genuine SL/R's, GTR's, A9X', L34's etc have sold for recently too.  I have heard some here mention that some good cars have been selling for very high dollars lately. As with the replicas.

The prices paid will vary dramatically because each car can be so radically different. Especially in rust, the repairs done and missing and hacked bits.  Labour costs and replacement/repro/custom parts can just blow a purchase price right out of the water. That's why I can pick up say a genuine SS for $20k but another will be $50k yet the $20k one will end up costing me more to finish to the same standard. Very few people can afford to pay for someone else to do a full pro rebuild on a torrie and with some of the questionable workmanship and extremely poor repro parts means imo we are going to have even less superb original examples around.

Even with a fine tooth comb and full on hoist inspection, these cars hide many many traps. Personally I prefer to buy a project that has no paint.  I want no socks or undies hiding the big issues. I would rather pay triple for good metal than pay for paint hiding all the bogey repairs.
