Hello everyone,

I'm new to the site so firstly I would like to say hi.

I am just about to start my LH project which has been in the pipeline now for over 12 months. I'm now in the process of pulling her apart and sending her off to be prepared for the spray booth.

I need to know if anyone can tell me if there is a difference between a 6 cyl banjo diff and one from a V8. I'm hoping to keep my car as original as I can during the re-build but I am replacing the 6 cyl with a newly built 308 and so far I can't get a straight answer from any research that I have been doing.

I have been told that the diff's are the same except for the Yoke. Is this true?

Cheers

Welcome to the forums. Apparently the slr5000 have a baffled diff (I find this hard to believe as I have asked some relatives who worked at Pagewood and cant recall special diff cases being installed on the line). The tailshaft obviously would be of a greater diametre.
In terms of banjos the 5000 could be optioned with LSD.
I also have a feeling they are all fine spline axles as opposed to course spline.

G/day Philip.

As Hanra has shown in his diff housing pic baffled diff housings and fine spline LSD were standard in SLR 5000.

Cheers

Dave.

Hey thanks guys for your input much appreciated. Can you tell me what the baffles are for or why they were incorporated in the diff's. Looks like I have a job now of trying to locate one or having one manufactured...

Is there any chance Hanra may have some more photo's of the diff so I can see what I need to achieve.

Cheers

Anthony

Helps to keep the oil in the center under cornering...init?

Is there much difference between LJ & LH banjo housings?

If not & your havin a go at your own, I can help with a copy of a template of

the baffles in my XU1 housing.

I made up another housing to use both long & short bolt centers & as my

original housing barely had the WM left which I didnt want restored.

I'm sure in Fiv Antonio's book GTR XU-1 there's specs on making the baffles, I assume they would be the same for both LH and LJ.

Sorry to thread steal but while we're talking about banjo diffs, I was at the wreckers the other day and saw a 3:36 banjo centre sitting on the passenger seat of a Kingswood, all the teeth appeared to be in good condition so I grabbed it. With the centre not in a car how do I tell if it is a LSD or not?

Thanks James

Thanks Rod,
It looks like the one I picked is not a Lsd then. I wouldn't have expected it to be but I thought I'd check. Are many of the parts inter changeable to make it worthwhile keeping as spares?

I think the crown wheel and pinion would be useful and interchangeable as a set.
