An easy way to find a good colour is to visit new car yards, at least that is what I have found! Find a colour you like, get the car brochure and take it to your paint person/shop. Whats more its not a totally unenjoyable way to spend a couple of hours with the lady friend walking about.

Cheers

There's a beautiful red currently on the BA/BF falcon range that is very very nice, I'll have a look on the computer at work tommorrow for a code and colour name but if you drive past a Ford Dealer I'm sure there'd be one in the yard that you could have a look under the bonnet for the paint code and see one in the flesh.

Its really nice clean bright red, or good old VY Commodore Sting Red always looks great too.

red tinter if you like true deep red. this is the straight red with no other colors added. just ask for red tinter. be warned tho if it isnt dead straight it will look like bondi beach.

if orange red is more your thing try mandarin red.

Most Red colours are expensive to buy regardless of their formulas vintage, unless you buy a premix from supercheap etc,

The BA/BF falcon red colour is named VIXEN and personally i think its the nicest solid red I've seen for awhile, Holden's Sting Red (VX/VY etc) is also a really nice red too but some might say its been a touch overused, still its a nice colour.

I like Ford Monza Red.
I had an LH back in the 80's in this color. Favourite car I've ever owned.

The engine covers in my avatar are sting red & my car is ferrari red, both reds are similar.

A friend of mine mixed up her nail polish bottles untill she got the colour & shade she wanted, then went to the panel shop to have the colour matched & then painted on her car.

My LJ is painted Holden 'Red Hot' ('Sting Red') and is bright as, i am not a fan of red cars (i bought it that way) but this red is really good. Only thing is in most pics it looks a little Orangeish. My 2cents.

Cheers,
Mick

hey we went for the a holden red. it was called 'red hot'. it was the brightest red that holden made. it should look good, its gonna have a white roof to break it up again. we are getting screwed around by the panel beater now, might need to find a new one.
thanks for the replies

talking about red paint....how come the red cars are the first to fade out and look all scratched up and cheap? is it our eyes that see the blemishes easier against red or is it the dyes that make up the colour?

Reds and Yellows are bad for breaking down prematurely, particularly if they're not cared for.

UV rays and all other factors caused by mother nature break down paints, some brands fare better than others, There isnt too much in the way of solid colour choices on cars nowdays thats why you notice more red cars fading and breaking up, Really the only solid colours available on new cars are white, red, yellow and some blacks, people who own black cars tend to look after them, people buy white cars because the paint usually looks ok with little or no maintenance and you dont notice how bad they get until its too late, reds & yellows show up their fading easily and it also has a lot to do with their pigments and the minimal amounts of lead in their composition nowdays compared to the old days.

Any paint colour will fade and look bad if its not cared for.

Red hot is about right.......red is about 2nd to black when it comes to absorbing the suns heat in summer. Unless you dont drive it in summer and/or have air go for something else.
