Hi guys I have a UC Torana hatch I am restoring it has disc brakes all round and the brake cylinder has seen better days it is a big nut PBR P7374 cylinder there is a rebuild kit you can by for $200 and then you have to re-sleeve the cylinder.  Personally I think it would be much more cost effective and less time to just by a new cylinder which does the same thing or better.  Has anyone got any suggestions for a replacement cylinder for the big nut ones that is just as good if not better?

P7470 was the replacement for the all alloy 4w disc master

But usually on a UC with 4w discs you got a plastic bottle master which is the Commodore one P10220

These do not interchange as the front can of the booster is different to allow the diagonal mounting

Big nut cylinders weren't genrally produced by PBR so its either a big nut cast cylinder or an aftermarket alloy PBR (usually)

Where did you come up with the part # ?

Hi Neil it is definitely a big nut cast iron one.  The part number I got from the rubber cap seal said genuine PBR P7374.  The car is a 1978 model one of the earlier UC Torana's with PBR discs all round and big brake booster, could not find a number on the booster just said PBR Made in Australia.  The number on the big nut is 26E8P 4 WHL Disc.  Do you recommend I use a P7470?  This is my third UC over the years but the only one worth restoring and it really has me stumped.

Ah

The part # is just for the rubber lid seal

You only need the $200 repair kit if your pistons are corroded and can't be re-used

If they are good you can just rekit the cylinder using $20 worth of rubbers.... or worst case sleeve the bore in stainless then rekit

Infact that lid seal is the most expensive part of the rebuild if you don't need sleeving

I've had to use that full kit twice for cars with badly corroded cylinders... but 8-10 times you won't need it.

Thanks for that info mate, I will do that it just has a leak in the usual place but otherwise works fine.  You wouldn't happen to know the correct part number or where to order the seal kit without the piston?

If your lid seal is OK I think the part #'s are P5473 for 2 or and P5444 for 3 of

Any decent brake shop should be able to help

Or Perth Brake Parts if you can't find one of those :)

I got my all-disc master cylinder off Ebay - shouldn't be hard to find.

Hi Guys thanks for the help.  I went to Auto One (waste of time) but Perth brake parts were very good and are reasonably priced.  The code for the big nut cylinder is P7369RI
