Hi, I wanted some new springs for the front of my hatch to get the front sitting down a bit.

It has an A9X k frame in it so I searched the Kings catalogue & decided that KHFL-15 should suit my needs.

I found an eBay seller doing good deals on new springs ($130 delivered) & made the purchase.

Super fast delivery, all was good - until I fitted them

The rubber bump stops on the lower control arm are now in constant contact with the steel bump stop that these k frames have - i.e. NO suspension travel.

I called Kings & was told that they've NEVER had this problem before. They were sympathetic to my situation & seemed willing to work with me on a solution, until I mentioned where I purchased them.

Anyway, has anyone struck this problem before & how have you solved it? (apart from buying more new springs)

What part number is written on the spring? I see what you've got written on the box but I'd make sure that the spring has the same number. What king pin are you running torana or hq?

You can get spacers for on top of the spring, Fulcrum offer 6mm and 10mm from memory, will lift the car about twice the thickness of the spacer.

I think Holden had something similar available also.

Yeah good point I'm sure Welby had a similar issue and also someone else bought a box and got 1 front and 1 rear.

If you've got rears that would explain it as they are usually about half the height (judging by LC/LJ springs anyway)

Potta, rears wont fit in the front without serious grinder work.

OP: Remove the metal bumpstop.

Enjoy your lows.

Cheers.

Fair enough DJ.

Just so you know I could have edited my previous post but thought I'd leave it and continue to look like a noob for evermore.

I mean there's so much evidence everywhere else its not really worth the effort!

Yeah I know, its all good.

Do you have to cut the metal bump stops off or do they unbolt?

Its hitting because someone has bolted/welded a big metal block between the bump stop and x-member.

That someone was Holden

Kind of a cheeky way to reduce body roll without fitting enormous swaybars

Yeah piss of those big ugly square things! I've never seen them before either on any Torana I've come across. Interesting indeed.

One would think also reduce any tyre contact over uneven road surfaces?

Not doubting, Firth was way smarter than me.....

Cheers.

Are you sure the blocks aren't an A9X thing? I have a feeling I have seen these before.

If you don't want them, swap the control arm for one that doesn't have them and sell the arm with the block to someone who is restoring an L34 or A9X
My 2 cents
