GMH didn't make them, Bosch did. You are far better off with a blue motor or black motor dizzy. What you need:
Dizzy.
Coil of the same car as the dizzy or get a new one (now one won't attach like the original, will have to go on the firewall or make a bracket to suit).
XE rotor button.
Plugs (gapped to right width) for a VC-VK or WB V8.
New spark lead for a coil lead. You can use the points dizzy cap and spark leads.
Bridge the pink and yellow wires at the ignition switch.

Only visible difference is the module on the rear side of the distributor.

Agree, you'd never pick it. Just do it and keep your mouth shut. If it is a problem at inspection just change out the dizzy and coil lead, and have a normal 12V coil handy (not original 9V).

You can mount the module wherever you like if you extend the wires. Just needs to be a flat surface so heat can be transferred.Only visible difference is the module on the rear side of the distributor.
I had a 4x4 with a 202 in it and had it mounted on the inner guard in a small Tupperware container to keep the water out.

Or tell the idiots that a dealer fitted one off a Bedford, as Bedfords had HEI dizzys on 253 or 308 before VC or WB were released.

That's ridiculous, if you applied the same rules the Holden/Bosch EK80 conversion kit wouldn't be allowed either, because it wasn't available when the LH was sold new. They were released in 1978/79.
Are all the SA historic rego inspectors like this or is it just one ?
If they want it to 'look' original, fit a Petronix kit, it's probably the next best thing to the Bosch HEI. It uses the original coil, so you don't get a greater HT voltage, but you do gain dwell extension & the other advantages of going electronic.
