Hey guys, when I bought my SL/R, it came with a load of spares, including this gearbox. I know it's probably a long shot, by can anyone interpret the paint pen markings written on it? Any significance, or just a reco shop serial number?

Is the T685251 the box serial number?

Should be stamped on the rear face of the casing, sideways near the rear extension housing bolts. Drivers side of the box from memory.

I'll check for that serial number tomorrow. It was "supposed" to be an M21, so that's an interesting one about the cluster number! Good stuff!

Hi,
The F 03, will be the cast date of the gearbox, = june 1973.

Serial number T685251 aligns with being a 1974 cast housing so F03 may not be the cast date.

Is there likely to be a cast date symbol on the housing, similar to that which is on a 253 / 308? I'll have a look over it later today for this and the serial number. The things you learn when you ask huh!! :spoton:

The cast date should be on the filler plug side of the casing, somewhere below or near the HOLDEN name casting.

F03 doesn't fit as a casting date as a '73 cast casing should have the day of the month first, then the month and year ie 7F3  7th of June 1973.

Also the day of the month won't be a 0 it will be at least a 1.
