hi "Toula" is in bog, rust converter, etch, primmer surficer, spray putty, primmer surficer  engine bay has 3 coats of Absinth Yellow acrylic from auto one

my friends car and my repair/painter man his "Sally" is in the same bogg, rust conversion, etch, primmer surficer, some spray putty in spots, primmer surficer ,then Tiffany Blue about 6-7 coats then loads of clear  all in acrylic all from auto one

when i bought second tim of spray putty board at counter i started to read tin label i noticed the manufacture date was 2010 f*^@ i said i went back to shelf and checked all tins dates and i swaped it for a closer to day date wich still was sad it was 2012 , this was this year 2014  our first issue

then my Toula kept cracking like putty was drying and shrinking and pulling the primmer with it showing up as cracks but only in like corners .

well my friends Sally went a head no issues at all looked really good

Toula ended up craking 3 times ,we sanded re-sanded in the end cut out spray putty just primmered now ?

well Sally was off rotiserie axles in driving stuff in taillights in petrol tank and spout in ...then cracks appeared ? on the flat panels then the next day they multiplied cracks everywhere where clear was put only .

so now Sally restripped back on rotiserie  being sanded back to bare metal ? OMG i thought

we are wondering is there something out there to be a base so i can leave Toula in her primmer coats and spray on something then do 2 pac ?

IMG_3992-1.jpg

this is Toula

IMG_4211.jpg

this is Sallys cracks

my friend now is thinking doing 2pac ?

i need to know prices abouts and steps can 2 pac go on any bog and can 2 pac go on bare metal ?

please any advice is good advice as we have no knowledge on 2 pac

Yep.....the best way is......bare metal first...repair rust and large dents.....apply 2k epoxy (very good protection)....fill repairs....polyester spray fill if it needs it....onother coat of epoxy to encapsulate the filler....2k hi fill primer....then top coat as required.....can use sealer before top coat if required and yes 2k primers will go on bare metal but not top coat ie base coat...clear or solid.

Cracking of the acrylic lacquer as shown in your pic is usually caused by excessive film thickness, previous coats not being sufficiently cured before application of subsequent coats or incompatibility of the paint films.

Perhaps the paint, thinners and spray putty procured from Auto One isn't the best quality?

hi sally.usually with only small areas of filler it should  be okay to put epoxy over filler, but if you want an excellent paint job start from

scratch as Slar mentioned.bog really needs protection from moisture .so if you have large areas of filler its most likely to go crumbly

and rust will appear on the surface of the metal and eventually come through to the surface of your paint job.putting epoxy down

first prevents that.but really bog should be used sparingly.get the dent out as best as you can ,apply the epoxy and give it a thin film

of filler or two to get out those small lows etc or spray putty to fill them in.

  cheers Maz

also my mate Mark don't like other peoples unknown bog work,

and removes all bog etc, back to bare metal,

no matter how bad the look is, and start all over again.

Sometimes it is best to forsake the expense and switch to something like this;

Yep....good work...now you can fill over the top of the epoxy and be fully protected from moisture....after you fill the defects you will have to sand the bog flat and this will also remove some of the epoxy around the repair area....once shes flat and straight dont forget to re apply epoxy over the sanded areas....this will encapsulate the filler leaving it completely water proof then you can apply your high fill primer over that and you will have a very nice surface to work with. Good job

Beautiful Job Shelly,

Can you pull out the deep dent/con-caved areas of metal panel,

that way there is minimal filler?

By the way, how do you get your panels back to bare metal.

Like button for you

Hand sanded with 80 grit! Wow A+ for effort, well done.
I just wouldn't have the patience to even contemplate that.

+2^ Wow, that is one Set of Hands You have there Shelly,

Now we know what you mean by bit by bit.  B)

Good to hear you are having minimal filler in your panels too, well done.  :spoton:

No sand blasting material, is going into your sub-frame cavity, or chemicals seeping into joins hey,

which brings a point of rust protection in there too:-

i wount be able to do much as it wil be way to clod might be able to do filler/bogg work again at a slow pace so by next october she should be so ready to aply the highfill primmer  then etc

yes we did grit blast her thats the dull grey coat she has still on in bits sands so easy  there is sh*t in all the gaps ,seals i haved vacumed her blown her with air ,wiped her over caused shes on a rotiserie

i have spun her over and over and back again still grit fallin` out

as for hand sanding i find it more better as the orbital  i have no finger nails lol

but in the end this car will be worth it all

Haha, gotta love having an apprentice Shelly, only trouble is they'll probably both hit the road at the same time and she'll be holding her hand out for the "keys to the Torana dad"?
