Hey all, just wondering what color smoke from the exhaust means what?

Thick White:

Bluish:

Black:

The first 2 are a sign of engine wear and black smoke usually means the car needs a tune as its not burning fuel properly.

blue - oil

Rusty brown under acceleration = Lean mixture

blue - oil

An oil problem dominantly due to worn rings

^ not necessarily, can also be valve stem seals, or an inlet manifold leak to the crankcase on a V8. Need to do further testing to work out exactly which it is.

black can = fluckin unleaded petrol

Hehehe, been a while since I seen a nice light grey tail pipe after a nice long trip. Prolly the last time was when I had the 173 SL LH.

Your right there Yella!

THick White smoke is either burning oil.... or burning rubber.. depends on the ammount of horsepower you have ;)

Blue smoke is also oil but in smaller quantities.. Usually past the oil rings or valve stem seals

Black is always rich fuel mixture... ( unless your running methanol...)

I presumed the non receival of a nice grey pipe after a trip should be contributed to the "new" unleaded fuels. I havent seen it for many many years ...

white can also be trans fluid sucked thru the kickdown modulator

White "smoke" should always be felt (hold your hand in it), smelt and tasted. Just to be sure...............
