I've completed the challenge;

  • I've run two weekends and got my sign off on my log book
  • put my upgrade applications form in to CAMS
  • put in two references supporting my upgrade
  • changed the diff crown wheel and pinion
  • fixed the shifter
  • entered the bathurst event - today
  • put my race fuel form in - today
  • Got my CAMS license approval for the upgrade -today
  • bought a new tent
  • booked the camp site

I still have to do the flag day prior to the renewal, but they have granted a one off event upgrade for the weekend.

Things to do on the car this weekend;

  • change oil
  • re fit front sway bar
  • re do the inlet manifold gasket
  • get 4 new tyres
  • fit new larger  alloy radiator

Leave next Thursday return next Sunday night.

Were going racing !

way to go Grant!!.

If you run out of time, just get  the tyres at the track from those trackside  vendors...they may even be newer rubber too.?

I priced them at SMP and they seemed to be priced right.

Hope it goes well.

Col it went like this

7200 down conrod flat knacker  into the chase and out the other side  heard a flutter in the engine as i braked for the corner

pulled second gear out of the corner onto the start finish line  to 6500 and then BBBBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

it all ended on the start finish line on the grass.

no rod out the side but very terminal internal - I thought that the car was going to burst into flames i was shitting myself.

what  a track it's madness.

not enough, but enough to be blown away.

it's just really hard down that straight on the motors holding them for so long.

well pull it down and see what's happened.

We all talk about "living the dream", well this man (Agent 34) just goes out and does it.

I was lucky enough yesterday to see Grant fulfill a lifelong dream when he completed a race in his Torana at Bathurst.

The motor might be dead, but it will take a lot more than that to get the smile off his face.

Here is the weekend in pictures. I'll leave it to Grant to fill in the words.

Fantastic images - what a blast that would have been.  Shame about the engine Grant but I guess that's part of the deal sometimes....

Hey Grant, I came looking for you on Saturday but we couldn't find you. Did you swap over the ratios ?

Chris - i was up the top of the mountain when your old man was calling, would have been good to catch up. kept the 3.36 in the car which seemed fine with the Xu1 cluster although the 3.08 would have been better with a standard box cluster which is lower in the ratios.

Steve thanks for the photo there awesome . I'll do a write up when i recover.

but I had an oil filter loosen and spit the O ring - in the third last photo you can see the oil pissing out from the stone tray - col this was the photo with the smoke .

that was just after the practice was red flagged - if i didn't button off and feel the car slip on the oil then the engine would have gone then- dodged a bullet with that one.

never had that happen before.

the track is very hard on cars, crazy to think that they did 500 mile at full noise.

We found placing a large hose clap firmly around the oil-filter prevented them vibrating loose.

How'd the new brakes standup ?

Put a hose clamp around the oil filter Grant...

Rotten luck....but lucky too!!!

Regardless of anything else.....as they say , A couple of laps of Bathurst at full noise?...PRICELESS!!

Assume that you had it wired or clamped, as scrutineers like to see that....and that the wire broke?

As above, this is simple and robust and I just move it to the next filter each time its changed. -

Bummer, oh well there is always next time. Next one on the list is Phillip Island grant, I hope there is not too much damage to the motor it's a long haul up and down the mountain.

What a pain in the arse, it will be interesting to see why it shite itself. There's a lot to learn from race cars. Back to the drawing board and it will be stronger next time.

Engine will be out tomorrow and pulled down for a look.

we think it may be a piston given the pressurisation of the sump.

we will see what falls out of the sump first when we pull it off.
