I'm having another go at the mountain this easter. I'm bringing the A game i think this year, but need to change the ratio in the gear box to a 3.08.

bought a new steering wheel

it's game on lol , hopefully as cheech and chong said " i don't find god at 6800 rpm " and he scares the shit out of me again with a massive explosion under the bonnet  !! lol

update on the new steering wheel and other purchases.

the new deep dish " sparco" steering wheel and " quick release hub " arrived.

ordered a new SAAS steering wheel boss  and reduced the offset back to 65mm.

am pretty stoked to be getting rid of the old wheel as it was slippery and fat - so it's upfor sale now.

bought the aluminum  " poo comp" fuel cell  as old wayno say's - it's foam filled to 100mm and has a fuel sender.

The colonel AKA " ralley red" sent some photos of his fuel tank set up.- thanks col

got an old tank here that I'm going to make a pattern out of for the fuel cell to sit in - then it's off to the aluminum welder and fab dude .

Guard rolling - this needs to be done the passenger side as the diff is off center.

so a list of three things is not too bad at this stage.

Well not much happening but finished the pool cabana roof, happy wife = go racing.

so i had to get the passenger side guard pushed out as the diff is off center and cannot have another shot at the mountain with a rubbing tyre.

I'll run it a fosc - festival of sports cars next weekend end @ 3.36 ratio and then change to the 3,08 for bathurst.

the roller engine i have at the moment is a tourque monster so and i also have the Xu1 ratios fitted to the current box in the car. so for bathurst i only need to change the ratio to 3.08.

I have a new detriot comming this week so at least i don't need to split the current housing running the 3.36 have an old racer Mike Dwyer helping me out which i am very appreciative of.

MIke was the apendix J champion and has run a lot of cars , been an engine builder and still is is main game. the quest continues,

there is no pockets in the coffin for people out there keith croft has not been well and had a few operations - hes a tough bastard and if you know him drop him a line - if you don't have his no pm me and will supply .

Hi Grant....Keith is a gentleman for sure.....I might give him a call, as he was doing some work for us, and I can use that as an excuse to see how he's travelling.

Thanks

Yeah Col - he looks good.

I'd like to fill this post with what when wrong , but nothing did.- i can see wayne smiling from here.

The car ran strong all weekend and it was a good experience driving in the rain for sure, there is an awesome photo of me all crossed up out of turn 5 which a photographer showed me and is sending on a disc at no cost.

So there is only the next assult on the mountain to get ready for Easter.

I have the fuel cell  tank dummied up - but am unsure if i can pull this off by bathurst.

need to change the diff to 3.08- got a new detriot center and have gears

wish list - pull shifter out and weld - file and re assemble as the shift from second to third is sometimes giving me grief and i loose spots when it happens, which pisses me off.

On a side note;

motor No2 is on the way, got the crank knifed edged, got a stard bore on the way. bought a good second hand pro race harmonic balancer.

few thinks to buy slowly for this;

  • rockers - to put on the old head
  • roller cam
  • lifters
  • fly wheel

wayne - top comment on spec savers OR just have 8 scooners,

if this car comes off tomorrow  then it's yours for a FOSC meeting in regularity event.

you just need to get it there - it will be a club rego car so you can drive it.- but good car and well sorted.

james,

there's no pockets in thoes coffins, so i have sold the kids to a couple who cannot have kids , for 30,000 K , me and the missus will be laying on the couch and loving life again.

I expect that the childless couple that we sold the kids to will after one week be begging us to " TAKE THEM BACK "  I'll say for 40,000 on top of the price I'll take them back !!!

If they say " that's too much " then i will up the price to " 50,000 " and then have another week off, by this time the childless coulple will be at there " WITS ENDS" .

on the third week i will " UPP THE RENT " the childless couple and say it's $60,000 to take the kids back - and they will pay !!!

so i made some coin and may be able to afford the torana in melbourne !!!

it's log booked and on histerical rego in Vic.

i have been very  lucky as things have come along, . It's not a dunn deal at this stage, but we will see over the weekend.

Wayne - given what's going on with 40 C , i think you should go out the back and check that police chassis no on that yellow LC  !- it may be " wayne lotto lc "  -lol

I could think of no one more worthy of the prize than you young man.

keep october free old chap for the FOSC meeting hit out !!

G

Historic plates/ rego is not transferable her in Victoria. So that may pose a problem driving it back to NSW although I suppose it could be driven back and then the plates returned. If you are doing that make sure you fill out the log book. Cause if you don't and the cops pull you over then it is classified as driving an unregistered vehicle and will cost heaps in fines. The tow truck fees to get it home.

OK so what is it.

well,

the left side of my brain said " don't buy it, it looks rough " and how many toranas do you need and were r u going to put it !!

the right side said " man thats a well built car, you can always tidy up the car, but it's costly to do mechanical stuff , and the mechanical stuff is done "

the right won. It took a week but the deal is done and it's comming back to NSW. probably in two months with a long drive back.

now back to the bathurst prepration.

pull a diff apart today and got the 3.08 gears off the centre, Mike Dwyer has kindly offered his help to change the gears and set up the detroit ready for change over. this i have never done so another lesson in diff set up.

the gear shifter may be another discussion for later on in the week. have ten days to pull the shifter out and shim up if needed or weld up and file down -pretty sure that this can happen next weekend.

pulled the diff apart and re loaded the 3.08 gears onto the new detroit.

cleaned the threads and also the bolts with cleaner, the new carrier was a very snug fit and needed to be tapped and pulled on with the bolts.

if your doing this at home then;

clean up the crown wheel bolt holes and thread prior to assembly

clean up the bolts with carby cleaner

tourque down till 50 plbs

pull the crown gear onto the centre

remove bolts and clean

 repeat again the above step

leave for 1 day to allow to dry fully

re assemble with red loctite - not too much

I would normally drill and lock wire and this may happen over the next few days, but drilling 10 bolts takes time - mmmm

at ;least there is no way one can come loose .

one more mill

yep wayne ,

it's such a iconic place to run around, I would be better to run a puss bucket BMW, but the spirit of bathurst is will always win.

I just hope this time i dont get  on the start finish line @ 6500 rpm and  cheech and chong said " I found god"

a short bit of cheech and chong is here lol
