diffs sorted = where back in the game big bopper

changed over the centres - the new one needs to go back and have the internal diameter machined out as it does not have enough clearance.

what a head fuc today was

When replacing pinion gear i hear lota of ppl re-using the crush tubes.. we machined up a spacer and machined to correct length.. effectively works to stiffen it up and should help improve diffs life span..

Well the bathurst attempt was going quiet well until i hit oil going into the dipper and the rest is history.

damage wise there is a bit of work to get the rocket back on the road.

I'm out of the game big bopper.

it's funny a mate of mine said and i quote " for 90 % of the track if you fOck up you will hit the walls, for the other 10% your going that fast that when you frOck up the car will roll and it's all over.

need a few parts if anyone has any;

  • bumpers front and back
  • left guard

I'll post up some picks.

The fastest torana was a 2.40 i clipped in at 2.52 and comming down. running 18th.

bugger.

Sorry to hear you had that issue Grant.

2.52 is getting fast I reckon, next year you will nail it.

Bathurst is addictive ...( Ivé only done the Hillclimb and the Challenge, never full on raced there )....you have....you 'll be back, better than ever!!

Here are a few photos of Grant practising & competing in the Rocket at Mount Panorama over the Easter weekend.

Although it didn't end well, both the car and the driver showed plenty of promise.

Quite a number of beers were consumed on the Saturday night discussing what shoulda and coulda been a very different outcome.

thanks Steve - It was 2 oclock when i looked at my phone and crawled into the sleeping bag, Great night talking shit and have a few around the fire. I was a bit dusty when i woke up in the moring.

Panel beater been round for a look and it  needs to go on the rack for measuring up and then looks like the front needs to be pulled back across - then new guard fitted.

yes your right danny  the joys of racing.

on a side note have been to see west end performance about the new engine machining, the bloke i was buying a virgin bore off has decided to keep the block now so on the lookout for another one.

Sorry to see/hear about this damage.
For all the hassles of finding a decent front guard second hand it is probably easier and less of a hassle to get a new after market front guard from rare spares or similar.
Any damage to the cross member or front suspension?
I'd get both rims checked out for any buckles and cracks as well. If they are damaged they can be repaired. Although two new ones probably wouldn't be much more expensive.

I'd just go with the new front guard too. By the time you find a second hand one, strip it fix the rust and dings and fit flutes to it, I think a new one would be cheaper.

Still living the dream Grant, not many of us can say we crashed a Torana in a race at the mountain.

Look forward to seeing pics of when you are back there.

Thanks Steve :)

Apparently col was clocking 220 odd at the end of conrod. Just didn't have enough oomph back up mountain straight though.

Not bad for a 6 year old engine though!

Think he has talked my old boy into throwing a car together now haha.

Maybe a quiet chat to him or to an EO should get it fixed.
Better to do it that way than to have the problem log booked.
