3G vs 4G distance from a repeater range is also something to consider,

as the thief will have you track to the last known location.

As for the Aldi Mobile sim pack, from post above:
https://www.aldimobi.../products/payg/

How many sms's do we need a month to check on our pride and joy?
Aldi Mobile 365 day Rates
Standard SMS $0.12 each
$0.05 per MB of Data

One for the Pets:
https://www.bestprod...s-pet-trackers/

You don't need any SMS's. If you use one of the apps it's live all the time you just open the app and it shows location on a map. You can also set geofences so it notifies you if it leaves the area you have set. Mind you the satellite wanders a bit so you need to be generous.

this maybe a cheap alternative, especially when you own a few classics.  $150 for 4 airtags, battery lasts for 12months.
Im going to try the Apple Airtags, if they dont work, i'll still use them with the travel i do for work.

Can't remember where I saw it now but pretty sure you won't be the only one tracking your car if you use those (which makes sense). Be careful.

I’m guessing you didn’t read the article or watch the video? The Apple airtag was pretty useless for accuracy!

also found this article doing a quick search, https://au.pcmag.com...ou-need-to-know, it says this

A prime concern about AirTags and other tiny tracking devices is that they will be used to track people, not devices. AirTags are small so they won't weigh down keyrings or backpacks, but it also means they are easy to slip into someone's bag. In theory, a stalker or abusive partner could then keep tabs on a person's whereabouts from their own Apple device.

To address this, the Find My app will alert you on your Apple device if it detects a AirTag not attached to your Apple ID—and separated from its owner—traveling with you. You're then given the option to disable that AirTag, or to play a sound so you can locate it. Your device will need to be running iOS 14.5+, though.”.

I would be certain the Samsung device has a similar option. So what this means is if you have the airtag in the car and the thief has a compatible iPhone they will know the tag is in the car and can disable it OR do a search for it and destroy it or just throw it away. Makes the device useless pretty fast.

Just a follow up from my original info on using the MT600 GPS unit. the only issue I have with my units is as my cars sit around unused for a long time the battery use is an issue with me (It may be better if I change the reporting interval currently set at every 30 seconds) and I find I have to charge  the car battery every few weeks. Both my units use Aldi prepaid sim cards with a 365 day expiry. They are live on the App at all times and use no credit on my prepaid acount other than if they send a SMS for an event (usually flat battery notification).

Yep, and have watched other videos and comments, where there has been no notification, or not until 3 days later.
So im confident, that id know if my car went missing, i would know within hours that it was gone, not days.

Ill get a mate of mine to "take" the car and see what happens.

I've found it doesn't make much difference when you change modes/intervals, even in sleep 3 weeks and you car batt is dead...and left like that it doesn't take long to permanently damage batt. I have 5 cars with trackers, they are all the same, 2.5-3 weeks to not start.

You have to use trickle charges, ones in link below were $4.50 when i last bought 8...now they are $7.50, they work good, had 1 die in last 4 years.

Recently bought one of these when I was bored on holidays and put it in my Mrs Hyundai, pretty impressed with it as it is plug and play in to your OBD2 port, nothing else to do really ocne you set the app up on your phone.

Anyway, has anyone ever fitted up an OBD2 port to their Torana .... only need it to power the tracker, not to do anything else ... would this be possible?

Very simple to wire an OBD port.

There arent many wires connected even in full usage.

You would only need the battery supply and the grounds Im guessing. So just 3 wires.

Downside might be that you need a decent crimper for the connections.

Cheers

You could probably just cut one out of a wreck Rob, with wires attached. Then just inline join the power wires.

Probably the easiest way if available.

Ive got a heap of new ones floating around somewhere.

Cheers
