No worries Gong

If you come across them again, you know now what they are, I wonder how many cars were done by the Dealers, great fix up by Harry until they added the better set up.

yes mate they are like the lock nut, see dave before the use of these the cars use to use nut and lock washer if you look at your 69 model you will notice that,,, my theory to this nut is if you delete all the lock washer from a LC/LJ TORANA you would be taking weight from the car, see each year they made these cars go FASTER handle better and more SAFER.

but in sayin all that DAVE it is just my run down on it and sound good to me until someone else can give me better facts

October 72 GMH issued revised/increased torque specs for the UCA pivot shaft nuts for HQ & LJ. Nuts not maintaining tension on the big washer against the pivot bush inner tube allowing the bush inner tube to spin on the pivot shaft.

In my mind it figures that at the same time the engineers were probably looking for a better solution to implement into production, hence the switch to the self locking oval nuts.

The whole shaft, bush & nut look to be HQ. I'd wondered why there were rounded pivot shafts

& my XU1 & the spare K member I had were flat. 1st thought it was XU thing.

John's pic promted me to put the spare arm against 1 in my HQ & look identical..tho I'm unable to

read castings.

We know the LJ shared parts with the HQ but as the Q was released mid 1971, would the pivot

shaft assembly been fitted to LC's that were still in production or would it have been held till the

72 LJ release?

Didn't some of the LC XU1's and early LJ XU1's on the front end have a bit of round steel welded on each side of the lower wish bone instead of the re-enforcing that was used to strengthen them up.

AL

sorry AL i have never seen this on a factory car.

what is this bracket for ?

this pic was use to show members the difference between the 1970 bracket used to the 71-72-73 one, if you have one of the later cars that use the p/valve set up you will then know the difference.

this pic below is of the PV marked in green and the 1973 front bracket marked with arrow
