Ah yeah, the usual story, I've got this. So where is it? Oh it's at a mates, not here at the moment. I've got a race car cause the guy I bought it off said it was....

I don't know if this should be in this thread but while your talking about dodgy cars, a fella said to me today you will cry when you hear this, he picked up a lx hatch for $950 I said a six he said no a v8

Ah 253 he said 308, and then he said its l34 and I said they only come out in lh nah he said its genuine, so I said is it a ss he said the plates say its genuine

So I said give me a look at the plates and he said hes removed the plates and taken them to the local holden dealer for verification

Then he tells me hes removed the plates on all four toranas he has

My question is could you order a hatchback or any torana with a l31 or did it have to be a slr or ss he reckons its factory fitted

Because this sounds to me like a dodgy setup

I do remember some time back that a forum member had a l31 4 door that wasn't a slr or ss

Anyone remember this

Yeah I remember Dave saying he had an L31 SL Sedan.

dont recall seeing any evidence of it though....

I've never personally seen an L31 sedan, but I have been told by reliable sources there were a few made. I have however seen a factory SL hatch L31

202 3spd column shift was the standard engine/box in a HQ Statesman at release, and 350 was a common option in Deville. These were both stock order drivelines until sometimes in HQ (ie you didn't have to order them, just buy out of stock). The 6cyl Statesman became a "by order only" car later in HQ. The rarest one I ever saw was a 308 4spd HQ Statesman.

EDIT- the quote function didn't work again, this is a reply to a post on the prior page at the bottom by Indy Orange. Otherwise it looks like random gibberish!

in the 80's I knew a guy who had a white LH SLR5000 auto with green factory trim. I was shocked when I first saw the car as at the time I didn't believe there was such a thing as an auto SLR5000. The tags all proved it was legit and the owner bought it from the original owner only a few weeks before. The original owner had specially ordered the car and a manual statesman at the same time. Talk about backwards. I thought this isn't right so I got to see the statesman as well and there it was a 308 factory M21 matching tags and all.

Yel327, if the quote doesn't come up, click on the button top left corner of the box where you type your comment. Works for me anyhow.

As i've said before, i have seen 2 LH L31 SL sedans.

One was Orchid with a white interior ( fake wood on the doors) which i borrowed the wheels off when i had to put my first SL/R over the pits. I know this car hadn't been screwed with because the original owner still had it. It was punched in the front & later declared as a write off. The owner told me that he had ordered the car with the 308.

The other was a white SL sedan. I can;t recall the interior.

Although rare an L31 M21 was a normal option for a V8!HQ Statesman as the standard driveline was L32 M15. If you ticked the L31 box you got a 308 4spd as the 4spd automatically came with 308. Trimatic would be extra cost. L30 was also optional on Statesman like it was on LS, but it would come with TH400 normally unless some special strings were pulled, even then I doubt you'd get an L30 MC7 Statesman through unless you were inside the organisation. Different story with Deville though as this was already standard as 308 and auto, big strings to pull to get a manual in one of these, just the same as HJ- HZ Premier or LS as auto was standard. If you optioned L30 in a HQ Deville it automatically came with M41.

For most stuff, but not for everything. For some stuff you'd have to be a GMH insider or at least have a dealer with big influence like Bob Jane or Ron Hodgson. I'm talking about stuff like manual 307 HT, manual 350 HQ outside of GTS or a manual HQ Deville or any manual HJ-Z Statesman. This sort of stuff you or I would never get through, not without the right connections anyway! Like being a friend of John Bagshaw.

No, it's not the same. I'm looking at a redline at the moment. I don't like the cream coloured swede dash the redline has, while the SS has a carbon look, and the SSV has a black swede dash. It's just inserts basically. Holden will not put the different inserts in even if I order the car and wait. They also don't make a manual wagon, but you can buy the HSV wagon in manual, and it's built like that at the factory!

Yep, for  a HQ, but this wasn't a HQ, it was HJ.

Manual HJ Statesman for Aussie market was not an easy thing to order. Would have required some bypassing of the zone office to get it made. Would possibly also have broken the Engineering guielines with regards to noise into the cabin from the manual stick. It is definitely a no-go in the order procedure and features manual. BUT the export versions had stuff like 202 and 4spd in these, and the bits to make it existed in the parts inventory (manual V8 wagon tailshaft for example) so with the right buttoms pressed.....I bet it was a Deville though. A manual Caprice would almost certainly be quashed!

It was about 1986-87 when I saw it, I think it was a De Ville. It was a farmer that owned it just west of Dubbo. I remember it didn't stand out at all, didn't have any other stand out options or anything, but the manual stick in the console did look strange in a car that was normally an auto.

They are normally column shift auto too, console shift HJ Deville were around but not that common, so to get a manual and console shift Deville, pretty much one-off stuff! Probably the only HJ Statesman to get a 3.36:1 rear axle too!

I honestly couldn't remember what the diff ratio was, i was more interested in the M21 on the tag and looking at the car in general. Typical farm car of the time covered in dust and crap but generally good condition.

Is he suggesting that members of the "Won" family were involved ?

I really don't think it was an Asian crime syndicate.
