How would you ensure that the register did not contain re-birthed cars and re-stamped engines?
A public register would make it easier for people to rebirth cars and engines using one of the missing numbers.

Well I am thinking a register that contained all the cars produced to start with.
That appears to be pretty easy with the available resources for the LC LJ.
If the owner wished the car to be on the register it would need to be verified independently.
The only person allowed to access the details would be the owner registered.
Password protected.
Details of the car only released to the owner with verification by password.
Known dead cars would be noted as such with verification.
Enquiries regarding a specific car would be referenced back to the last registered owner before details released.

Bet not, would love to get a accurate count of how many Ford GT's , valiant E49's, GTS ,SLR'S, GTR , brock commodore etc we're build.
And how many originals now exist , would bet the numbers don't add up.
Having been associated with 6 Pack Chargers some time now, there is pretty accurate knowledge of which cars are re-shells. Prospective buyers just have to ask before they hand over their $$$'s. One or two of them are pretty high profile cars as well.

What if the legitimate owner bought a crapped out genuine shell and put the tags on a stolen replica?
I like the idea of a register; just looking at ways it can be foiled.

Thats where the independent verification would come in I guess.
Im sure there are enough experts who can verify a car.
Combine it with the dodgy tag stuff as well.
It would be time consuming to set up, but once done wouldnt require much at all.

I'm sure there are enough experts who can verify a car.
I contacted Holden and received a .pdf authenticity letter, at the bottom it read:
Should you wish to establish that the vehicle has the original components; it should undergo an independent
check for authenticity. This can be performed by most reputable car clubs.
We've started an SL/R register here;
http://www.gmh-toran...2-slr-register/
It's still very small but you gotta start somewhere

You,d need somebody pretty well respected and honest to keep a register of cars that kept the details close to there heart , Theres a couple here that come to mind , perhaps Bazza or S pack .

Or the opposite...
Just like covert ops having the philosophy about being hidden in plain sight, maybe by disclosing all the cars including their numbers would redact the ability of someone to pass off a copy.
If the list is in the public domain and includes rego and/or ownership, such an outcome attributes a given car to someone - the more the list is known, the more it might work in terms of deterrence.
Might also serve to assist with establishing provenance a-la; 'will the real slim-shady please stand up?'
Just an idea...

However it goes there will be people who will still buy something without checking.
Ive seen people come on here after they have bought a car that had been discussed extensively here about issues.
Then they find out they have been had.
This is a pretty easy forum to access.
And there are some people especially the little Torana guys who are very secretive about a lot of stuff.
For the little Toranas it would be worthwhile collecting the data on all 2 doors not just the GTRs.
Especially chassis numbers.
This way it would make it a lot harder to make false cars.
Pretty daunting task to get started.

I would guarantee there are members on this site who have pretty comprehensive personally aquired registers of these cars gained through years of research.
Im not saying they are complete registers, but I would assume they are sizable.
And not for public consumption, either.
I have been critised over the years for not making public info that has been collected on the L34,s over the years. In my defence i am willing to help anyone with info and have saved a few people from getting burnt but still some still deceive even if they know the truth. They need to be brought to justice

I looked for approx. 6 years and nearly gave up and the car was found in a garage with no rego
white in colour
I thought the car had gone to the wreckers no but its alive
But sadly not for sale (yet ) maybe one day

I assume that we can rule out any members that have commented on this thread so far as the guilty people are probably keeping a low profile for now.
Interesting you say that James as there are a few members that have changed there active status to (private).
Also there seems to be a few innuendo's flying around also that certain people should be very careful of.

Well I better put a comment before I get accused of something
I hope if a forum member is convicted of such crimes it would mean a life ban at our forum at the very least but that's a decision for admin.
