I will check some paperwork that I have here to see if it will shed any light but from what I have seen, it's around that time frame.
Maybe if people with stock cars that are 10/76 - 12/76 could let us know what they have.
cheers

I have just had a look at some old service bulletins and Holden did a running change on the Torana's in Aug/Sep 1976 to the PBR Lightweight Brake Calliper.
I would say that the change from clip to grommet happened at the same time.
cheers

RTS badge for 10/76 model is correct.
cheers
Mick
Mick, LX Torana (6/V8) didn't get RTS until March 77. The Sunbird got it in Oct/Nov 76. The badge would be correct for a 10/76 Sunbird but the dash finish should be timber tone. Also there were no LX Sunbird hatchbacks in 1976
The change to the brake pipes occurred it the same time the larger cast iron master was introduced. Also at this time the PBR alloy calipers & 2-pin brake switch were introduced. This was all part of ADR31.
There are several things not quite correct on that car. The rear demister switch should be on the console & there's no radio. An SS had a radio as standard, but it could have been optioned with 'radio delete' but why would you ?
The brake master cylinder & washer bottle are aftermarket & the fuel line to carby has been butchered. Also the anti-run-on solenoid is missing from the carb. Oil filler cap is chrome & the heat riser tube is missing.
The stripes look correct, but the 'Torana' nose badge should be diecast, not a sticker.

Thanks Dr Terry,
yeah I did correct myself ref the RTS Badge..
Shouldn't be any Torana badge on the nosecone for an SS..
Just to add with what Terry has spotted;
The Radio Fascia is one of mine as I checked the car out at Toranarama. Thought it was an interesting way that he had installed it using the screws. LOL!
Running a four barrel manifold and a Rochester carby, and
Wrong fan shroud type.
cheers

With all the minor details that have been pointed out I think your mate can rest easy, the car Is almost 40 years old and chances are a few things might have got fiddled with. I'd say the demister switch is in the dash to fill a hole from a car alarm light, every car had one in the 80s. The radio was long ago removed for a stereo but the last owner removed it and put a new faceplate in, the screws are a bit rough though. The nose cone got a sticker because everyone thinks all toranas had one, surprised it doesn't have an SS emblem on the steering wheel as everyone also seems to think its not an SS without one
yes mate totally agree....

The stripes may be correct but IMHO they are so wrong. Very nice car regardless
The centre colour of the stripe should line up with the door handle or not?
Not a good picture

Only just noticed it. They are sitting too low along the whole body..

I've got the original pic from Motor Manual, December 1976 and it is much clearer that the red centre stripe does not line up with the door handle.
It appears to sit, by (approximation only) with the bottom edge of the red stripe positioned around 6mm below the bottom of the handle and the top of the red strip about 10mm below the top of the door handle.
IMHO the position of the striping on the hatch that is for sale looks ok just the colours look faded.

Looking at the pics on Aussie muscle car sales it is obvious the side stripes are not original GMH transfers.
