history check, PPSR Certificate, can't find my car

hello, new to site.

am trying to buy an lh tory, and paid for what appears to be a useless search by "car history.com"

"PPSR Serial Number Search Certificate"

obviously wanted to find out if written off, stolen etc..

what i received was seemingly nothing.

No registrations exist for this serial number

NEVDIS has responded with no vehicle information for this serial number. This is possibly due to an error in the

as i don't 'think' i entered the wrong details, is it more likely that their fine print disclaimer about no records kept for cars prior to 1989 the reason for no record at all?

I've burnt a few dollars on those PPSR certificates before.

An absolute con of the highest order when dealing with old cars.

Check with your local RTA that the numbers are clean and buy it if you want it.

Maybe you did go wrong with the serial number.

Search Criteria Details

Serial number search type: Chassis number

Motor vehicle: 8B69DH*****00X

You have searched by chassis number however 8B69DHJXXXXX0X is the vehicles PSN or VIN number not the chassis number.

Also, if it is an LH Torana, why does it have an X and not a H at the end of the PSN?

The number you used is not a chasis number.

Get the chasis number from the car you have inspected and try again.

My advice is to not try again. I've pumped a few chassis numbers ALX######9M or whatever in and it never gives a result. Maybe a nil result means the car is good but the website certainly doesn't say that.

It's a system designed for new cars. Save your money.

Just looking at the PSN again, 8B69DHJXXXXX0X relates to a 1978 model year LX Torana S 4dr sedan fitted with a 173 high compression engine.

G'day All

Does Vic have a REV's check down there

Register of Encumbered Vehicles which basically checks that the car is wholly owned and does not have money owing to banks etc

Throw the numbers up here and you will probably find out if the car is what it is suppose to be, and that is a good start

Good Luck and Good Idea to check before the cheque is given

Looks like you might be new to the Torana scene so asking questions here is another Good Idea

The REVS system is gone. The new system is PPSR which stands for Personal Property Securities Register run by the Australian Govt. Not as good as REVS but here is the link.

There is a cost involved and its $4.00 from memory from the official site. Be careful as there are alot of other sites with similar sounding names and website addresses and they charge alot more.

All they do is piggyback onto the officical site and put the extra money into their pocket.

sure effn didn't, was less than helpfull/detailed.

claimed "likely" i entered wrong vin! which i didn't

(know to check pretty hard as often misread)

Thats it. It should also be stamped on the front driver side rail, behind the headlight (near the charcoal cannister).

Use this number for the PPSR and use the link I posted and it cost $4.00

first question, havwe been told to find a few items to get test running,

a 500 holley, (or a 350. or..?

want her for looks, not "go". less petrol)

would 600 do?

or about any of these?

do only some, or most? fit my 253?

(am told my manifold is "two port"?)

ha ha ...love the before and after pics!!

Have used PPSR for buying VE Commodores etc and its pretty useful...but for Toranas, I think theres not much in it for those old
cars.
REVs was better.

When I bought the LJ I ended up going to the local police LAC and asking them to run the engine and chassis through their system ( which was a bit funny, as I did it on the way home from arvo shift, thus at 1.30am the police chick goes "" you must be pretty
excited to be buying this car....what?...cant you sleep?..""....anyway it came back all good.)

I think there was even a note on the PPSR site that said it was pretty useless for old stuff??

Anyway....welcome and looks good.

Sounds like your 253 has the factory 2 barrel manifold so a WW2 stromberg is the original carb for a red 253. If it is a stocko or warm 253 I'd go for a 350 Holley and an adaptor plate to suit the stromberg manifold.

BTW looking at your pics the love of your life is a 1977 LX Torana not an LH.

The two barrel inlet manifold in the posted pic is to suit a 253 V8 with ADR 27A anti pollution equipment. The pedestal with the round and rectangular holes on the drivers side on the manifold is for the EGR valve.
