Hi guys,

a long while ago my Trimatic leaking symptoms were that of a bad O Ring on the filler tube (No leak when being used but let it sit for a day or two and pool of fluid). I replaced it with a generic O Ring from a multiple pack and some sealant. However after refilling the trans it leaked the same.

I have since got myself a new O Ring from an Auto specialist to put in but before I do that I degreased the trans and went looking for any other leaks.

It seems there is a leak from the kickdown plug. Would this cause the same leak I mentioned?

Also it looks like the cork pan gasket has been overtightened and one corner is split - so that needs fixing anyway.

And the yoke welsh plug must be gone too - there is a leak there.

The modulator is dry with a new gasket, the selector shaft is dry. Even the filler tube is dry.

Cheers

I could be wrong but I didn't think that the fluid level was above the dipstick tube o-ring, so I wouldn't have thought that either of those spots would cause a pool when sitting still. Check out where the fill level is on the dipstick relative to the tube and that will tell you.

The pan gasket split might allow a small constant drip though, and it could be running down the edge from one end to the other before it drops on the ground which might mask the source location.

The TH400 in my HJ premier leaked from the selector shaft, the speedo cable attachment point (both seals) and the dipstick tube. All looked like the pan gasket when you looked close. Once I replaced all those all good.
