G'day all

 

Well the great ex-presidente White Knight aka Keith has made a suggestion for the Tassie Torana people as and itinerary for Toranafest 2015

 

Board Spirit of Tasmania Wednesday evening September 16 Devenport

 

Disembark Spirit of Tasmania Thursday morning September 17 Melbourne

 

Drive up Hume Highway to Gundagai for stay at a motel ('bout 6hr drive)

 

Friday morning September 18 early leave 7am from motel and meet Pop's-SS at Coolac and travel to south Goulburn Maccas arriving 'bout 9am

 

(Normally I leave Cootamundra at 7am and go via Harden/Binalong and then onto the Hume)

 

Meet up with any more Toranas from the south, leave 9.30am

 

Meet Sydney Torana Club at truck stop on M7 (Westlink) 'bout 11am

 

Leave 11.30am on M7 turning left on Pennant Hills Rd then turning right on to Newcastle Freeway

 

Stop at Wyong Twin Caltex Servo on left for lunch 'bout 1pm

Leave 'bout 1.30pm for Toranafest motel at Raymond Terrace

 

Trip back

 

Monday 21 September leave the Fest motel and head to Bathurst with maybe a stop over at the now defunct and over grown Catalina Race Track at Bathurst

 

Leave Catalina and head to Bathurst and pay homage to the Mountain and visit the Bathurst car museum at the track

 

Leave Bathurst and head towards Melbourne down the Olympic Highway and perhaps stopping over at Cootamundra or Wagga for over-night stay

Maybe a visit to Pop's place for cuppa or snackies 

 

Leave motel and head to Melbourne for return voyage

 

This is only an idea for a trip to Toranafest and details obviously would need to be finalised BUT time flies and September 20 will come up very quickly

Why don't you just have Toranafest in Melbourne this year, would be alot closer for the Tassie guys

I forgot to add Barry, sorry for inviting myself, but I do like your plan and had planned to drive to Bathurst to visit the track one day so the plan sounds damn good to me.  I was planning on driving up from Melbourne but if I could find a few blokes to head up with that would be even better.

 

What's the deal with the motel bookings at the motel in Newcastle?  Who arranges that? Do we need to get in early?

Main idea was Keith's and a bit of mine but you have the general idea of a Torana Road Trip from the Apple Isle to Toranafest

WOW, I just googled the Catalina circuit cause I'd never heard of it before.

Looks like it would've been a real fun circuit to thrash around.

Can't believe it's so close to the centre of Katoomba but I guess that's one of the reasons for it's demise.

Very disappointed not to know of it when I holidayed in that region a few years back

 

 

I have a dvd with some racing from Catalina that was taken on a super 8 film camera which does not have any sound but is great to watch

 

Might bring it up to the Fest

 

I recognised a purple Mini Cooper S that is being driven by Phil Barnes, Phil did all of the work on my first 2 cars that were Minis

 

The track is over-grown but probably can still be walked on

It is owned by the local Aboriginal group from that area

 

After Toranafest 2011, Gary and I drove to Katoomba and met up with Three Blind Mice (Bruce) & Thrash Da Bucket (John) and called in at the 3 Sisters Lookout at Katoomba

 

Where we parked in this no parking zone for this photo shoot

 

 

Then visited the Catalina race track for a bit of a walk

 

 

Then after leaving Bruce and John, we traveled to the Mountain

 

 

Where unfortunately the speed limit is 60 k/h

 

BUT I still have to complain about the traffic when at the Fest, it was really hard to take 

 

 

AND some of the scenery was a bit hard to take

If any of Tassie's Torana people are coming up for the Fest and you would like to stay at the Fest motel ........ There aren't many rooms left so IF you are coming up for the best Torana weekend you will ever experience and want to stay at "Torana Central" which is an 80 room motel where the only noise you will hear is rumbling V8's and cammy 6'ers then you need to book NOW

 

I have just got off the phone to the motel and it is filling up FAST
