Power at red.
Does slide.
Wondered that myself, had I not " set rod and therefore switch to correct furthest back/or forward" when I replaced ignition barrel..

When changed ignition switch to retry.. made "sure" (this is me we are talking about).. that I had.
(So that when ignition key at furthest back.. switch was ALSO pulled to furthest back)

Maybe, just maybe,
I indeed have TWO old crap ignition switches..
And need to check out the "rebuilding" threads

some.. people who had recently installed the ignition switch might have noted that it was adjustable to slide forward or back to position correctly.

some.. people who had recently installed two ignition switches might of definitely noticed.

some.

doh!

just needed adjusting, so twist of key really jammed switch forward.

*and, lucky was advised to also give shifter a jiggle too. needed it.

_________

yay! (thanks all. we're getting there!)

next am testing fuel is secure and not spraying everywhere , before hooking up a spark.

Lol a forced learning experience all over
(Like how if you think your tail lights are hooked up fine, but if you wobble the loom they cut out, and need redoing to be sure)

With all this cranking, did you ever get the transmission cooler lines connected up to the radiator, or is there trans fluid being sprayed around under the car when you wind it over?

Does the oil pressure light go out now when cranking, in other words, are you getting oil pressure?

Did you get the fuel tank cleaned out and/or treated?

So you've now got four working blinkers, how about all the other lights (reverse/brake/tail/etc)?

Obviously no horn looking at the steering wheel? Did the fuses fixed the heater fan, wipers and washers?

If you had an exhaust you'd nearly be ready to fire up wouldn't ya? Any plans for the exhaust, are you going with a set of extractors or looking for standard manifolds?

transmission lines done while ago. (does... not include any rubber hose as many/sane people opt for.

pipes seem to have enough twists and turns to allow give and take of minor trans twist/vibration.  well, until i find my fluids falling out anyways. ;) )

oil light stayed on while cranking.  had turned off key so it turned off.

(still haven't changed to "switch" for oil pressure,  nor temp. still to buy)

am getting good oil pressure/pumped. i believe.

fuel tank cleaned next task to tackle.

other lights.

-haven't tried reverse. exciting, will be a first.

-brake work (still need fine tune. about 5mm.)

-tails work

have replaced all fuses and cleaned terminals. (continuity seems good through all.)

haven't tried fan, wipers or washes.

again, will be a first!

as for exhaust, am planning on extractors. (have standard manifolds already, no pipes. gonna just fashion something to direct heat away for now as gtr advised. don't have $500 bucks lying around, as yet)

s-l500.jpg

thinking... easier to install in two sections.   ??

(as don't have a hoist.  ??)

----------

and, yes! (as far as i can bloody tell.)

VERY close to have a rough test fire up!

had me thinking about "reverse lights"

couldn't remember seeing those on the tory.

just googled forum and says are the indicators!

if is case, a set of additional LED's are gonna be wired in! (mounted in bumper/somewhere)

imagine led's don't use much power so could just "tap" out, and not blow fuse. um, i imagine.

Depending on how picky your examiner is when you go to get it registered, I'd suggest you wait to do that until after it's registered? I haven't looked at the ADR again but from memory there's a few requirements for position and visibility, and I'm pretty sure you can have a maximum of only two reverse lights?

Anyway, you will need to run a new wire from the reverse light switch (on the gear selector) all the way back to the LEDs because the wiring now is shared with the blinkers (unless you want your reverse lights to flash with the blinkers that is).

That is assuming the LEDs don't draw any more power than the two existing bulbs (so 2x 21w), otherwise you may need a battery power feed & a relay in the circuit as well?

good point andrew, will wait, no point causing anymore grief than already ahead.

and didn't think of that!.

have no interest in "blinking" reverse lights

later project!

_______________

hmm, now my car only turns over in neutral, but not in park.

darn it!!!

remind me, when exactly does the "fun" start lol

It's all fun, I actually don't mind wiring... well except for when you have to lay on your back on the floor with your head under the brake pedal and your arm jammed up under the dash that is!

With the blower fan... start by turning it on (I think it works on both IGN and ACC) and check for power at the connector in the engine bay where it goes into the fan motor, one wire will (or at least should) have power on one speed, and the other wire on the other speed.

The slower speed is actually achieved by that curly (yellow?) wire on the fan connector having more resistance than the straight wire.

If you have voltage at that connector on both speeds then you may need to pull the fan motor out and check it's not blocked up with leaves and crap?

hmm, now my car only turns over in neutral, but not in park.

The inhibitor switch likely just needs adjusting as well, just loosen the screws and slide it back or forth, checking it works in both park and neutral, but obviously not in reverse or drive.

(oil light dims and then goes off after about 5 seconds of cranking over.)

I know you haven't fitted the correct oil pressure switch but it sounds like you're getting oil pressure up okay then?

If you have a tail light coming on instead of reverse then that's a typical sign of earth problems (one bulb can't earth back to the body so it earths back through the other bulb's wiring).

cheers andrew!

will check for power on fan to see if fan is the culprit.

didn't realise (read:look/notice) that inhibitor is adjustable.

mmmmight.. be that. as in too far backward (by 3-5 mill)

when in neutral it has to be jammed tight up towards reverse.

will check.

oil sounds good!

and, had lights on, so was expecting tails,

but when checked five seconds before i had both reverse lights.

i swear.. turn my back for just one second..!!

will do a thorough check of wires and connections.

i wouldn't try and rewire or replace the reverse lights to replace with LED's , both blinker lights are the reverse lights on these things when reverse is selected.

there was a thread around here a while ago and i think from vague memory there should be a couple of green wires with a connector that are long enough to lead down to round about where the tunnel is flared for the bell housing on the inside of car , if this is the case then it is a simple matter of arranging these 2 wires so that they only get switched in by the switch on the shifter when rev. is selected.

cheers eunuch, will have a squiz.

imagine are possibly talking about the greens from shifter, and tapping out of there as andrew mentioned.

led's use frOck all but may have to run own battery feed and relay.

all in the future..

but just can't imagine "yellow" dim'ish lights are great for reverse lights.

---------------

soooo sick of seeing her like this.

can't wait till have glass in and cut and polished and washed.

has over a year of grime on her!

Grab jerry can stick long hose in it from fuel pump, hook up the ignition stuff.

Grab ya neighbour to help fire that thing up...pop some flames from exhaust pipes.

From memory reverse is just 2 rear blinkers lighting up..no need for LED's

am close!

might have to wait for neighbor. the old bloke has just had some surgery and told me not to expect him to be on his feet till tues ish.

would prefer to have someone there who knows about carbys etc..

and to put me out if on fire hahaha

jerry on fuel pump will do. perfectly clean fuel the go i reckon.

(did pour in 5 litres of fuel and a litre of meth, and siphoned all out, and breathed in a good lung of fumes,

and refilled with another 5 litres, and siphoned a bit out to check and seems "pretty" clean now.)

You'll never get the fuel tank 100% clean without pulling it out. I wouldn't worry too much, just throw some fuel in it and be prepared to replace the fuel filter a couple of times until it catches all the crud?

I wouldn't start the engine without at least exhaust manifolds, it's a big fire risk if you've got any leaks and you'll burn all the paint off the chassis rails in about 30 seconds flat! Even with manifolds and no pipes you'll have to be careful not to cook the starter motor / transmission lines / etc., no point making more work for yourself!

Having said that, I doubt there's anyone here who hasn't fired up their engine with just extractors open under the car at some time in their life!

my standard manifold exhausts point directly at all those things you mention.

yup.

looking to give myself MORE work..?

trust my fuel line work..??

NOOOOOOOOOO!!

will fashion some pipes from junk pipes can get a hand on like gtr advised.. or

buy extractors.

rusty old second hand ones if poss to get sooner.

most people aren't desperately trying just to pass the time till ufc 212 starts, i sure was.

(well done max! Go conor!)

and took out fan, bench tested, worked fine, put back in, worked fine.

??

anyways, now have a working two speed fan!
