heya gtr

timing and idle WAY off, knowing me.

will look for drop in water level and see if turning/flowing when grow balls again. aargh! bit paranoid right now.

will invest in thermometer (or, expensive aftermarket guage, cheers!)

and will try your trans advice. (liqid seems "clean", i guess. and i topped it up to well full. hopefully.. a good idea!)

if theres is no movement in the radiator the thermostat must not of opened yet.

it may seem hot but im guessing not hot enough to be at running temp.

as  above would be approx 10 mins or more to get up to running temp,

as for front and rear windows u may know of the rope install method but this may help if not,,

it not a torana but same principle.

put the chrome strips and corner pieces in  after you install the glass..

ill take that back just watched another that explains easier to put chrome strip in first

It's not far off but if you're paranoid get water/oil & vacuum gauge(tuning) for it also brakes working

Have look for stain on extractor to find out what's dripping on it.

You're at a point most get happy 'cos it started...crack open a beer!

Yes I was gonna say you should re-check the transmission fluid level, especially after it's all been apart. Even though you had it full before startup, the first couple of litres would've been pumped into the torque converter, leaving the trans empty again. You need to check the trans fluid level with the engine running, preferably also with the transmission hot but so long as it's on the dipstick will do for now.

It's quite possible the distributor could be in one-tooth-out, if you can't get enough advance you may need to lift it out just enough to move the rotor clockwise one tooth on the driven gear, then drop back in and redo the timing?

...and more replies popping up so will keep this short.

Last 2 clips smoke might be a oil leak onto extractor?

Other clip if top hose not pressurised after running doubt you've had it hot enough for thermostat to open yet...when it does can top it up.

For timing...bust out the liquid paper or white marker...dab the little 'v' on pulley & big line on timing cover marks...with timing light try to line it up at 6-8 degrees...see if it likes that..I'd probably turn idle up more so won't stall when put in gear.

oil leak from?? rocker cover?

or just my oily car getting oil evaporated from the rocker area from the extractors steam maybe. ah the puzzles!

will check harder to see if hose full hard/pressurised when running next.

(when gets "hot" and steam starts pissing out of extractor and idles funny/rough have been turning it off)

will try your timing advice (mixed with andrews concerns soon)

Unless you can see oil pouring out of somewhere I wouldn't give the smoke a second thought, I can't hear any extractor leaks in the videos and it's perfectly normal for new headers & exhausts to "burn in" and cook the coating like that for 15~20 minutes.

i have just bought a vacuum/brake tester/bleeder

as for the next step..??

will look into

stain, i "think" it is just steam, and my not so clean rocker area is proving the oily color

think.

with that i think the extractors are leaking.

then again, i have no real clue.

trying to be happy!

but engine gets hot spits out steam and stalls. aargh!

Yep, don't stress about that smoke and shit just yet. Bigfella is onto it.

Maybe hold off screwing with the timing/tune until I have a nose at it mate.

ok was just thinking weather it may be a head gasket blowing out steam etc once it warms up..??

others may know more if this is likely to be or not??

Could be small rocker cover leak...I wouldn't be worried about it.

Either way it just needs a good run & some more tinkering.

Relax...walk away...play again tomorrow.

this advice/ponderings of yours may be quite accurate. i fear.

Aarrgghhh... too much overthinking I think!

Don't crank down on the cork rocker cover gaskets, they only need the lightest amount of tension, once the gasket starts bulging out the side it's too tight!

andrew, jas,

won't over tighten, love the rumble,

but it's too late!

jas got me thinkin.

so i just when outside and started her, and although not dripping a single drop from passenger side,

..i had a good look with torch.

looks like a lot of "moisture" just below the extractors, where smoke/steam is coming from.

that's, am walking away and not discussing further. jas has jinxed me.

;)

will await a more learned brain to squizz at soon and post results.

No stress jas, what it is is what it is.
Will deal with it come what may 🙂

(I am just in fret mode and need to take advice and just chill regardless. Have other things to set mind to as well.)
