anyone else had that problem?

fitting flares is not as fun as i hoped. friggin need to be chopped/shaved/yanked in every direction

IMAG2202x.jpg

sikaflex to stop(??) rattles

(had a pic showing pop rivets then added. cant find it.)

made to fit 9 inch filter. has 11 inch sides

(now think should of gone bigger in retrospect)

IMAG3284x.jpg

starting to look a lot like MY torana.

a very happy day, can tell you!

am rapt. am very lucky.

(won't ever be a show n shine though, i can assure you!)

but if anyone was wondering can it be done on a budget of a pauper, it can. don't let that stop you having your childhood dream can in the garage.

and serious thanks to everyone support and advice in the threads!

now onto the other few...

few, few's the wrong word, lots of other problems ahead.

like why when i tried to turn a column manual steering column into an floor auto with an angle grinder it's "clicking" and not bolting back together properly.

hmmm. surely can't be anything i've done.

big cheers Ice, much appreciated.

cant talk now, am off to the store to buy 4 bottles of magicdust that you sprinkle over the car and it dismantles then rebuilds your front suspension and fixes steering, re-installs all the windows mechanisms, and finishes off with installing a v8 brake booster etc from scratch..

because i'll be buggered if i know how.

am sure will work.

(if not, lots of reading threads ahead.)

am going to post in brakes, but doubling up here.

the easiest thing in the planet, there is no thread for...

"how to remove calipers from lx"

yet i can't do it. special tool needed?

bought max ellery torana resto book to do this stuff. a useless book i reckon.

IMAG3646.jpg

how do i undo this "nut"..on the left?

IMAG3649x.jpg

have a pretty good tool kit, am hoping i have what's requires.

any knowledge of what's needed, or i'm doing wrong would be much appreciated.

showing how my (aggressive as) chopping of the hub ended up looking.

idea was to be able to lower and never rub, and hide door/arch, so only the flare is visible from any angle.

reply posted in brakes thread,

"It should be a cap screw, you need an allen (hex) key"

cheers for info, 76

going by how much torque needed to undo others, and the small allen key set ive got.. not having much faith it'll undo before i snap key!

regardless, again cheers!

turns out needed them

IMG_0069x.jpg

didn't have seats for car so i bought a set of UC fronts for $100

hadn't sat in torana for 20 years. did not like the feel/seating position at all.

so, i bought a second hand set of autotechnica sports for $200

HUGE, and not comfortable.

looked at recommended seat in threads, couldn't get hands on..

so, took a gamble and bought off ebay a set of suberu liberty series 4 seats.. for $50

wow. just wow.

(my car is bench seat, so no inner mount holes, as benches only had two on either far sides)

IMG_0077x.jpg

IMG_0088x.jpg

IMG_0089x.jpg

IMG_0111x.jpg

IMG_0112x.jpg

IMG_0101x.jpg

IMG_0102x.jpg

a liitle heat and bend with multigrips... and they lie flat and clear everything!

IMG_0106x.jpg

requires hole drilled and backing plate and nut welded

IMG_0105x.jpg

requires hole drilled and backing plate and nut welded.. but matches and meets tunnel/flooor!

IMG_0104x.jpg

and the view... PERFECT!

IMG_0110x.jpg

so... if anyone wants to buy a set of uc or autotechnica seats.. i don't need ..or WANT them!

-----------------------------------------------

(they don't seem to "lean" forward far, so no good for hatchback)

answer, smash ball joint separating tool harder!

IMG_0158.jpg

IMG_0159.jpg

(and ..realize.. ball joint separating tools come in pack of 2 for reason, thinner gap forks for upper, wider for lower)

fookin' yay!

(note: unsure of spring's behavior when releasing as haven't done before... so tied into place with ratchet strap. wasn't violent or needed turns out.)

Livo mate, i found if you tighten the ball joint separator, then leave it a bit, then give it 1 turn. Sit down have a smoke & a drink works out to be perfect timing! Don't hit the tool as it's just cast. Always worked for me. Gary.

the good news..

am upgrading to a set of reco UC upper and lower control ams.. and found that the larger shock hole is big enough to fit my "internal spring compressor" tool

UC on left, LX on right.

IMG_0164.jpg

IMG_0161.jpg

will help when refitting springs, if needed that is, as fitting lowered shocks. will see.

(as mentioned, didn't need spring compressor when removing front springs, lowering with jack slowly let them out without any force thankfully)

_____________

the bad news. who the frOck designed this car so have to drop the k frame/cross member to take out old upper control arms!!

 IMG_0165.jpg

am going to try rexy's advice

http://www.gmh-toran...ngine-in-place/

"Posted 29 September 2012 - 02:39 PM
Jack up the car and insert stands under the front floor each side.
Place jack gently under front crossmember, pref with wide wooden block to avoid denting it.
Undo crossmember nuts and drive bolts through with socket and extension.
Wheels off front for access of course.
Gently lower xmember on jack - you will get plenty of space to change the items without undoing anything else.
Reinsert bolts and pull through with nut - I find a very long screwdriver is helpful to lever the bolts back up part way.
Wheels back on etc.
Done! "

i dont have any of my fuel or brake or whatever lines connected anyways, but am wondering if shouldn't undo steering rack from console and floor pan??
or has enough play without doing?

while i'm at it, may as well replace crossmember bushes. i think these are the one i need

why in the pick above does it look like it only has 1 bush per bolt??
