"completely useless."
in regards to cars, not with new things i have attempted/done myself in the past on my el, so i'd say no.
"how handy are you? What are you prepared to do yourself?"
pretty handy, though not great. but, intend on doing almost all work myself none the less.
(using site,yt vids and manual)
as for brakes bomber, am not going to make/recreate a brake setup/lines myself.
friggin looking forward to doing the body, suspension, engine, interior, security, and paint myself though
Looks like a bloody solid start mate.
cheers bomber! that's what i thought too when i saw her.

Hi Mat,
It sounds like you are reasonably close by....you mentioned Olinda, Gembrook IIRC...anyway, I'd be happy to come and have a look at your setup in a couple of weeks time. I can probably offer you some good advice as to the best path forward. Can probably show what a 4dr with HQ brakes stops like too. As above, I don't want you to spend a stack on shit that you never fit to your car. From the look of your pics, you have a good start - better than most. I think it was Matt above who mentioned biting off more than you can chew. This is critical. Small steps when young grasshopper.

When you were talking brakes I thought the car was a bit more complete than it is.
Was it driven with the V8 in or was it taken off the road to have it put in.
Don't know how long it been sitting for but it look like someone has already started on the brake as some of it is missing.
Good luck with the build.

tell me about it, jumped the gun on worrying about the brakes aye
haha.
anyways, wise to have a plan to aim for/stick to, so started thread to gauge a break setup.
as for car, not much known.
was bought as a parts car (by the guy i bought it off) in case of oops's with his genuine slr.
saw my ad i put up asking for a tory, and figured too good to part up and let me buy it. (yay x's a zillion)
(and he has another parts car)
so, don't 'think' car has been ever run as an 8, and think changeover was only half completed.
few extra parts come with the car... brake booster is not one of them, if that tells us anything

Before you start anything I have one question.
What is your range of tools like?

Yep as said before brakes can be done up the track The standard brakes stop with normal road driving unless you like Blue lights. A moving unit painted with engine bay and motor recond for a bit of get up and go. 350 holley was big enough for a 253 Don't forget hemi had a 265 and it was a six be it a big six so a 253 is a small V8.Seems to when we were playing motors a 350 worked well with a mild cam plus good headers or extractors. Maybe the secrete to having a 253 move a bit better than normal. I think massive brakes on a road car is a waste unless into track racing which you cant do on the open roads without risk to others or ya self or your newly painted pride & joy. When I first purchased my car the owner used to race it at Oran park he did most of the suspension motor and the only thing he said he changed with brakes was the front calipers to cast iron lh/x units.

Start with the body that will keep you honest for at least 6 months worry about the brakes after that
is my intention after reading other builds, cheers ice

ha! was shite.
..now, after hearing of stay away from quick n cheap chinese parts just to get on road quick...
is better now. skipped buying part to get it on the road and
just bought nearly everything might need, so have real tools now.
..minus body work stuff hand tools and sander etc, yet to buy

hmm, not at all first person to say stick with a 350 and see.
pretty cheap to just try too.
am looking at one on offer presently.
(and wouldn't mind also being one who stumbles onto the secret of a happy medium carby that gives engine a bit of poke. my only real aim is for engine to sound like a fun 8, but a bit of go wouldn't be a bad thing )

If you are a good scrounger of bits then a stock prepollution manifold with a quadrajet is a nice setup. I had a 253 in the old LH with mild cam and extractors with this setup. Also ran a 350 holley on the same setup. I liked the quaddy. Still, if you already have a useable setup you might as well assemble it and see how you go.
too late for changin' rexy. bought a 350 holley today/
gonna learn how to and put a new kit in it, (as probably 15 or 20 years old)
By the way if you decide to go the HQ style setup for the front brakes there is no need to spend a thousand bucks with Hoppers. Good useable secondhand stuff is cluttering up lots of sheds and can be had for nearly nothing.
probably a great (even cheaper) option.
as am now not in a hurry to do brakes, if put feelers out a set will come around some time in future from someone doing further upgrade
cheers
