No reason you cant put the current engine and box to the side to put in later when your off your P's, and put a six and a box in the car for now.

Drop tank has nothing to do with the engine, if it cant be engineered then possibly consider beridding of it. No idea what type it is, but should get a few hungy, stock tank could be had for $50 or so.

Cheers.

Not a v6... Straight 6,just go a 202 with a decent cam and a slightly larger carby if on a budget

how much would my motor go for and just a estimate of a 202 that your talking about? and also i had a look at a few but most have been rebuilt, and that sadly is prohibited for p' plates ::(

what do you think about this one? http://www.gumtree.c...gine/1067480869

No v6, that would be classed as an engine conversion and get you back to square one.

A rebuild is not classified as a modification.

Those prices are very steep in the gumtree add, should get something for half those figures.

Keep in mind you will need a gearbox to suit the six cylinder as well.

You can pick a decent 202 up pretty cheap still and dont worry about if its rebuilt and modified most of the time as long as it looks standard and isnt too loud you will be fine. Mine was fairly loud and had minimal mods but o was lucky. All i did was extractors and a 34 adm weber carb.

As for the current setup id say at least $1000 and go up from there, i paid $1200 for a 253 and auto which turned out to need a full rebuild.

All together (incl. flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, gearbox, shifter etc.), if the engine is okay and assuming it's only a "VT" prefix, and the box is an M21, I'd say maybe two grand if you're lucky? If the engine needs a rebuild or it needs a new clutch or there's any metal in the box then obviously less.

Your problem is that you can buy a complete LS1 with trans for not much more than that if you look around.

Put a wanted ad in the Classified section here.

You should get a decent 202 and M20 for around $600 plus freight. They will be far cheaper away from the big cities. Up here you get a good 'hear running' 202 for 250 - 300 bucks. Ive seen good running motor and boxes going for 350 - 400, Freight is the tricky part and would cost a few hundred but they aren't that easy to sell so you might find someone willing to put it on a pallet for you. There's a thread on this site where you can ask members nearby to go and have a look at parts for you

I'd go for a red motor to keep it simple. You can put a decent head on it, mild cam, electronic dizzy and maybe a 2 barrel Stromberg carby and XU1 dual headers and it will still look standard and go alright.

If you're willing to go with a 173 it will be even cheaper again.

Eww... sorry Jordan, I think I may have told you WAY too much money for your V8 motor? Sorry... I should've done some homework first!

I've just been having a quick look around ebay and I don't think you'll get anywhere near what I said before.

There are a few LS1 engines for well under two grand (and one under one thousand)...

http://www.ebay.com....s-/33615/i.html

And there's another blue 308 listed for $250 ("recently reconditioned" but looks like it's in pieces).

So I have to revise my estimate down considerably, apologies again.

ohk yeah thats a great idea, thanks lazarus, i can afoord 600 :), yeah red motor i would go with all those parts you said cause im willing to pay 800. Bigfella,... thats sad news :( but i cant understand how a red 202 can be more expensive than a blue 5 liter 308 running with gear box and the whole lot..? :( but its all good haha no need to apologise :)

Slow down, relax. These challenges will be easily overcome. If you remove the Holden V8 & 4spd, don't sell it, put it under the bench for a little while. If you don't have the money to do it, slow down. If you want to have a Holden V8 in the end, don't sell your conversion.

You should be able to get a running Holden 6 for a few hundred bucks - $600 is over the top unless it's a known good motor that has had its performance improved considerably. Getting an Aussie four speed and clutch mechanism suit 6cyl will be another few hundred bucks. You will need a few things by the time you've got a flywheel, clutch etc. I'm doing a V8 conversion now and have all of the gearbox stuff available if you are interested, but I am in Melbourne.

just throw a 202 4 speed in it, im running a bog stocker 202 in my ute, its fairly loud, coppers dont annoying me, only been pulled up cause they liked the colour and told me to take care of it, I got a 4speed for $50, changed the oil and put it in, 2nd and 3rd synco's are shot, but i just take care of it,

and remember old holdens and fuel economy can never be put together :)

being a UC you'll mostlikely have to run polution gear, but you could get away without it,

drop tank should be fine,  upgraded brakes that need enginnering with a P Plater driver im not sure about, and there was something about a 9inch diff being a performance mod but i dont see how it would be

i only find a few loops for engines, e.g i can put a commy VT efi 5L in my ute and be legal :P

Nope.

But i cant see a huge issue.

Once again check with the relevant authorities.

Cheers.

Probably better if you can get something with an M20 behind it already, then you can retain the tailshaft, pedal box, enjoyment of driving etc. The blue 202 for all intents and purposes should be considered an original engine, and it basically bolts in but a red motor would perhaps be more suitable for ease of exhaust parts etc.

A cop won't even stick his head under your car, but tell him a 9" is a reliability mod due to all the burnouts that you do at off-street venues haha.

I have a great 6cyl exhaust and 6cyl manual conversion and all that stuff, but it may be easier for you to find local gear.
