Hi Guys,

Im getting through my LC 307 CHEV conversion and am hitched up on one issue. Does anyone know the steering knuckle and shaft configuration for the conversion? I have heard two knuckles from a LH/LX and have also heard three Knuckles. If you have done a SBC conversion could you please post some info or photos on how its done?

Cheers in advance!!

scallop the front end, shorten the rack input shaft, move bottom of steering column to the right about 20 or 30 mm (can't remember exactly) and fit 2 unis

cheers Rodney

Thanks for that Rodney. Are the knuckles and shaft standard LX LH?

Have also seen 3 uni setup to clear

I'd like to see the three knuckle setup as that's what I originally had in mind!

Probably crs kit..google image search should do the trick.

I'm curious what knuckles get used these days as lh lx fairly old now & rare spares ones I used as replacements were horrible, hopefully they have improved.

I used 2 x LH knuckles & 1 x intermediate shaft, After cutting a small length from the rack shaft and also another cotter pin seat near end of it... I don't see the need to cut K-frame, But have seen plenty done like this over the years......

Then you'd have to support at least one of the intermediate shafts with bearings mounted back to the chassis or down to the K-Member rear leg wouldn't you? Otherwise the centre uni of the three would look like a skipping rope when turning.

I used 1 lx uni and 1 of these ,the ebay one won't work with the original shaft as the groove is too deep and the cotter pin pulls through.

A shallower groove in the intermediate shaft and rack shaft and these unis work fine

What shaft do you use and where do you yet them from? How do you get them to size?

It says in the eBay link the hole size is 14.3mm. You can buy a 300-400mm length from CRS.

i just used the shaft that i cut from the steering rack when i shortened  the input, just need to notch the shortened input shaft and cut the offcut to length and notch one end of it for the cotter pins, being careful not to go too deep otherwise the cotter pins will pull through when you tighten them.

cheers Rodney
