Probably cost no more than $130.00 bucks for a sparky to install a new bulb.

I had to buy bulbs from the USA for mine, about $10 each for NOS as they aren't made any more. Canon make new machines still.

C'mon Al,

Just get on with it brother - stop being a Ricky Muir and whinging about the system instead  of showing some initiative and leadership - the RTA may be behaving poorly but put your big boy pants on and get into it and on with it - we are dying to learn what you find!

You have FOI rights and the ACT government has FOI obligations together with a pro-release/publish policy - see the ACT Chief Minister's advice - Google is your friend: http://www.cmd.act.g...ormation_online

You will find statute, policy and applications on that page to leverage from.

In addition, click on the 'What is open government' tab and you get sent to this page which includes an email for the portfolio which is designed to remove those impediments that you cite: http://www.cmd.act.g...t/about_the_gio

Keep us in the loop hey?

Cheers, TB

Good luck Al, but mate, don't confuse Commonwealth elected representatives with their state/territory counterparts.

No amount of whinging to them will remedy - your information request is for the ACT Government to assess and release, and is of absolutely no consequence to the federal state of affairs.

And so when talking FOI Act, make sure you are relying on the ACT Act: http://www.legislati...a1989-46co.pdf

The Ombudsman is of course a consideration if it all goes pear shaped but I'd also consider ACT Attorney-General as the Minister responsible for that Act and thereafter the ACT Human Rights Commission - exhaust those avenues before the Ombudsman IMO otherwise resolution gets bogged down and everyone puts up shutters even more so.

Also, have a look at this re: ACT Government's philosophy of transparency, openness and provision of information: http://www.cmd.act.g...open_government

These commitments by government might help bargain a better response from agencies if brought to their attention.

Cheers, TB

Al,

'We' have several in this country - FOI Acts that is.

I say again, just be sure you are playing under the right one: Freedom of Information Act 1989 (ACT)

And hey, I also again say that I wish you the best of luck but go easy mate - you catch more flies with honey as opposed to the Sex Pistols approach to things concerning 'the man'.

The ACT RTA is full of very good people if you recognise as much - if you don't, then human nature is what it is.

And so my advice is to temper it brother, albeit it unsolicited advice - take what you will, leave behind what you don't.

Regards, TB

I get the LOL Al but I will say Victoria is Victoria, and the ACT is the ACT - there are differing rules, approaches and cultures at play.

Plus, didn't you once in this round of missives disclose the major stumbling block was the ACT RTA's device for getting old information off micro-fische was buggered and they were unable/unsure how to extract the data as a result - something to do with a blown bulb on a machine dating back decades wasn't it?

If the sole machine they have to look at the fische is u/s and repairing it is problematic/expensive, this might explain their 'reluctance'.

You go in there all sex pistols like and for sure they are unhelpful in working out the what, how, when, etc of fulfilling your request regardless of the legitimacy of the same at law.

This is why I say chill, discuss what you are after, why you are after it and ask for a hand as opposed to pointedly reminding folks of their obligations and seeking contact with supervisors - following the former gets much better responses in times like this is my experience.

You don't need a supervisor.

What you need is a line-worker who appreciates the what and why and buys in to your research efforts.

And so bang on about your statutory rights and the public service needing to serve the public - rightfully so - but doing so rarely gets what you want and never gets a degree of over service, and in that regard, this is what you really need - the sort of information that teeters on the edge of disclosable or not, but which is handed to you in order to help your cause.

If it were me, I'd call back and ask for a do-over with the above sentiment in mind - but that is me.

Again, best of luck.

Cheers, TB

Lol,TB,flies and honey, so true. The public servants at the ACT RTA are a dying breed...smaller government footprint and all that. So they're busy. Completing FOI requests takes time and takes the affected public servant from their primary duty which they are still expected to complete. I would tell you to fcuk off too...unless you are a card carrying Labor voting union member, lol. But you'd have to let me know
