..... na pwr  .... good analogy also,   always more than one side to a story.

now if we really wanted to open up a can of worms we could say something like, it is not so much about how the government gets its income , it is about how that is spent.... from recollection 2015/2016 budget, 190 billion to welfare and 53 to health, 30 to Education......

in all of the past few pages the focus has been on people rich and not so rich who contribute to our economy, there are many who do not except as a fiscal drain and there are a number who cannot through medical circumstances,. the total welfare 'mentality' needs to change as it is not sustainable, ( especially when the country is in deficit and paying big interest annually) . The various governments since 1983 (approx) ( when superannuation wasmade  compulsory) have been pushing ( albeit very poorly) towards all people currently under 40 being self funded retirees, so no pension as such... makes you wonder?

Personally i do think small business does it tough and that bigger industry has more scope to minimise tax,  although i would love to actually see how much unreported income ( cash in hand jobs or living off the store goods goes on)

i would think lots of small businesses pull 3000-5000 a year in cashies..... which maybe the payback to the richer folks claim on tax breaks... who knows

anyway , i don't have the easy answer to tax nor to social welfare reform, so i appreciate all efforts from those people who work hard to try and tackle these problems

Ps if i was Ricky Muir i would want my name taken off the front of this thread, as it has morphed somewhat   Good thread  .... with lots of good insights

I need to find one of these "creative accountants". My ute was paid for by my business, but because I also use it for non business duties I can only claim 30% of any money I spend on it, including the purchase cost.

I also have a rental property that is for sale at the moment. It has never been negative geared, and with houses being cheaper than at any point in the last 10 years, I don't think I have too much to worry about when it comes to CGT.

buy your tucker with it.

Maybe that's the attraction to Bali.  lol

Yep I agree ........    The Tax Laws in this Country are crazy at best ... For example ..

The analysis also revealed which family types are most reliant on the public purse.

The results would shock many Australians, according to NATSEM principal research fellow Ben Phillips.

“Most people rightly or wrongly think they pay too much tax and don’t receive enough benefits,” Mr Phillips said.

“So people might be surprised to learn only about half of Australian families pay more tax than they receive back in benefits.”

As many as 85 per cent of single-parent families contribute no tax, once welfare benefits are deducted. Of single person households — mostly pensioners — 55 per cent pay no tax. About half of couples with no children pay no tax. For couples with children — with adults more likely to be working — one in four families pay no tax.

Research fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies Stephen Kirchner said pension rises should be curbed and Family Tax Benefit Part B abolished in next Tuesday’s Budget as recommended by the audit commission.

On average, Australian families will pay $12,935 in income tax this year but receive $9515 in benefits — a net yearly contribution to the public purse of just $3424.

The figures include welfare paid in pensions, family benefits, jobless support and childcare support.

They include all income taxes paid but not indirect taxes, such as cigarette excise and state-levied taxes such as the GST.

This whole thing shouldn't be about Who is getting ripped off Vs Who is making the most gains. It is the same with any tax concession. The wealthy will reap more of the benefit because they are paying more in the first place This includes GST exemptions. Maybe we should remove those too!!  Imagine the uproar if little Johnny Dolebludger had to pay ten percent more for the tampons used by the mother of his children.(Who he doesn't live with most days so she can claim the single parent payment.)

We need to start thinking about what betters the country as a whole. We have a 122 Billion dollar deficit and no foreseeable way to reduce it.

Who do we owe the 122 billion too ??

Maybe we should Negative Gear Australia to our creditors then.      We seem to be good at running the country at a loss, and we should then be able to get back our depreciation, running costs, Bookkeeping, Interest charges, ect  reduced from what we owe ...   :)

Outrage! Singles like me are subsidising those freeloading families! Why should I pay for their poor reproductive choices! Etc, etc...

But the big restraint on new building is not a lack of profitability in housing, but the availability of land and the vagaries of our planning systems.

Hmm... seems I said that myself... Truth is the Government COULD make housing cheaper but they don't want to.

I've been thinking lately... since privatisation and off-shoring is supposed to be wonderful and make everything better, why don't we "outsource" the Federal government? There must be politicians from India or China who would do the same job for less - and they get to live in Australia too! We could save a fortune on our over-paid pollies and their big, fat entitlements... what say you guys?

Well, we could hold a referendum and agree to be annexed by Russia. And their personal tax rate is only 13%! What a bargain!

..   But 12.2 million Tax Payer's are paying Tax so 1.2 million Land Lords can receive Tax Concession's while they are getting wealthier ...    I am not judging anyone here, it is totally allowed and accepted..  But I would rather see my tax money go to areas of real need, Health, Pensioner's, Education...  And that is why I like Labors plan for NG ..  Just my opinion,  Nothing personal ...

This is what I believe is the truth behind Negative Gearing....   anyone is welcome to disagree.  cheers CW

Hi Chaos, ....

..as I said earlier, this whole thing is a beat up, to distract the minions from what's really going on.  Regardless, for the sake of some server space somewhere...

...the figures above are no doubt from a reliable source,...but if you stop and think about it for a minute.....1.2 million landlords are noted. According to the ATO, 30% of landlords  made a profit, and were therefore taxed. The rest, got a tax break,

Lets assume they all ( loss makers and profiteers) vaporise, as they are bad.

The people of Australia cheer wildly as the greedy Neg. Gearing pirates are brought to account .Yeah!!

But as the media spotlight turns towards the next friggin beatup....( Boat People?,, Naru?, A Mosque in your local area?, Petrol Company collusion?..a single mum in Western Sydney with 46 kids making $6300 a week on the dole? etc  etc  etc .the people realise that there are now about 2 million people without somewhere to live?  WTF?.

Thier homes are no longer available as the rotten landlords are no longer providing them.

Uh-Oh.

Thus the renters  turn to the government and say...,,""hey, you need to provide us renters with houses, as the greedy landlords have pulled the pin"".

The Government says, ""no way Hose', ...it used to cost us $4billion a year to support privately provided housing, but now!,... well, we as a Gov. cant afford to build that many places...., you 2 million  people, will have to get on the end of the Public Housing line....why dont you come back in 10 years and we will see if we have something coming up?""

Thus....it all turned to poo.........but the minions were happy,,,the greedy landlords were no longer.

p.s. came past Catho Bay today, took all my willpower to stop from hanging a turn into there for a beer...maybe next time   lol

Skap, You are such a dead set moron, in the 4 years I have been on this site, you have never once added anything of substance to any thread..  You are a 4 eyed little boy, who spends most his time on a Torana forum, hanging shit on people..   and you don't even own a Torana..  :(       boo hoo, maybe that is why you are so sarcastic towards everyone..

Skap,  the amount of PM's I get about you  from other members is unreal... most,  if not all describe you as a Dumb Cunning Stunt, amongst other things....   you have been banned numerous times because your a fukwit.  So we all get your a fukwit, you can stop proving the point whenever you like, we get it, you are a fukwit OK ...

So in short, get a life dickhead, and maybe a Torana if you want to be a cool Cunning Stunt, like the rest of us....  and here's an idea, , if you have nothing to add to a topic.......  say fukall..  It works for everyone else here ...........   cheers Ian (chaos)

Yes Col, I would agree with most of that.  The truth is we do have a big deficit that needs to be payed for at some time.  It's damn hard to keep stripping away money from Education & Health to try and pay for it..   Negative Gearing, along with Superannuation are two things that definitely need to be looked at as a way of cutting Commonwealth costs..

Would love to catch up for another Beer some time....  Just remember Wed & Fri 4:00 to 6:00  titty girls    :)  Sat. live music (soloist) , Sun,  Live Rock Bands ...  Get down here, before the Chinese own it as well ........   :)   cheers mate ..

I have no problem with negative gearing only applying to new properties!

After all that's how it was supposed to be set up in the first place, as an incentive to get more people building new homes in order to bring more housing onto the rental market. The way it is setup now just prices first time home owners out of the market.

I don't know why some people are so scared of it being wound back, it's not as if those negatively geared properties will all just magically disappear. Lol.. And if you want to negatively gear an investment property after July 2017, JUST BUILD A NEW HOUSE! :)

The Buffett rule should be brought in too!

once the politicians have spent all the land sales on holiday's, perk's, and salaries, we've lost the power.

I can see the blindness now, hmm.  :furious:
