Hi guys.
I'm looking into setting up my brakes / hub / rim choice.
I have a LX hatch unflared.
I want to have all 4 wheels / tyres the same size and as wide as I can fit.
I'm guessing I will be going ha pattern but if I have better option will commodore then I can do that.

What rim size and back space should I go for ?

Thanks heaps

Hi Scott, this is the same question ive been trying to answer..i have a flareless hatch diff(borg warner) has been shorten slightly about 15-20 mm each side and guard lips rolled flat.I have 265x50 x14 tyres on back now which just fit..i borrowed a mates 15x 7 convos to get some idea which fit easily but I want 8 1/2"s from what have worked out the 3 3/8" backspace wont fit unless you have 50+ mm narrowed diff otherwise rim n tyre will be right out to the guard lip.
The 5" backspace(8 1/2) might fit with a spacer maybe 10-12mm or the tyre would be to close to the shock and inner guard..so that's probly where im heading with a 235x60x15 tyre I have another mate lol who has this combo I can try.
Nobody makes a 235-245 or 255 in 50 series tyre in 15's unless a semi slick tyre tho you can get 265-275-295 in 50 x 15's
im only going a 6" rim on the fronts
hope that helps

Obviously you will be limited by what you can get on the front if you want front and back to be the same. 15x7 with 225/50/15 will probably be as big as you can go without cutting things.

Agree with rexy.  Be looking at 225's all round I reckon and if you don't get the offset right on the front, the wheel/tyre combo will foul the guards for sure!

Thanks guys. Lots of info. So the 225/50/15 on the front will fill the guards. Will the rears have the same clearance or will there be more room.

Really looking for the clean look tyres filling the guards the same front and rear

nup it wont look the same the rear will have quite a bit more space and the front will be a close fit specialy the bottom front lip of the guard when you turn the wheel

Hmmm so might have to rethink it. Might have to look into just filling out the guards equally. So maybe 245/50/15 on the rear

In my experience, a 205 tyre is best suited on the front of a non flared LH/X Torana. Not saying others won't fit/work. It is what I have always run, and currently do.  As for the rear, there are many options to run fatter tyres. I currently have 17 X 8.5 rims with 245/40 17 inch tyres and they fit easily without any rubbing or touching.  But I have a 3 inch shortened diff and 3.5 inch rear backspace.  So it all depends on your setup. I also have a set of Weld Stars which I run for the drags with the similar offset as convos, and they are 15 x 7  front with 4.5 inch b/s and 15 x 8.5 with 3.5 b/s. Front tyres for those are 205/55R 15.

Do your homework first or you may regret it later :-)

I recommend building yourself a jig or fake wheel out of cardboard to the dimensions you want. You can get circumferences and widths of tyres of the web easy enough, then play with what fits, measure it and you're away. Better and cheaper than buying wheels and tyres until it fits, anyway. :-)

I did this as I ran a shortened BW on my flared four door and the 9.5s at the back fit spot on.

Don't expect them to stay on to long running wheel spacers.

Not saying it's right bomber but i have run wheel spacers (around 8-10mm) with no problems what so ever , used the car as a daily driver for 2 years plus! like said not saying it's right i would not do it these days unless for a emergancy but it does work!
