Anyone put a T700/4L60/4L60E behind a 202?

Seems to be plenty with a V8 but no mention of an L6?

Would it be a close enough fit to change the bolt pattern?

Thinking of playing with EFI on the kingo and thought the trans would go well too?

An early V6 one would work well, CRS do an adapter plate but I've never seen it done. Would be interesting to hear from someone that has though...

I've got a VP V6 and trans in the shed.

Got me thinking...

I've been toying with this too for the SS

Early VN-P style V6 auto with the CRS adaptor and manual lock up on the convertor

Then I could run 3.9 diff gears but retain some highway cruise ability with the overdrive.

It'd be far easier to just get a V8 4L60 and bolt it behind a TH pattern 308 and drop the whole lot in!

I would think that the power drain of driving a T700 would make this a lousy conversion.

But thats just my opinion.

Would it really be a noticeable amount more than any other auto?

I reckon so.

Its big and heavy so will take more grunt to spin than a trimatic.

I just noticed Dellow do a kit for the 4L60 or 4L60E to Holden 6. You'd want a lockup kit too for the converter. The V6 converter is small so would be fine behind a 6cyl. WOT the 4L60 is essentially a TH350 with an overdrive so wouldn't be that much more hp to operate than a trimatic, perhaps a few hp.

Here is a good article on the TH200 vs TH700:

Whats a trimatic vs a TH350?

Ive read a few articles compaing the 700 to the 350 and 400.

Some say the 700 uses something between a 350 and 400, others say more than a 400.

From my reading

Glide 18hp
TH350 36hp
TH400 44hp
TH700 55-65hp.
I couldnt find figures for a trimatic.

This is internet hp.
Take it with a grain of salt

I thought a Trimatic was just less than a TH350, like about 30hp

Are they different?

Ive had nothing to do with them.

Have a google.

Power loss for GM auto transmissions, or something like that.

The v6 one has a one piece housing (no seperate bellhousing) so might be a bit lighter? and a smaller converter, though so does a 6cyl trimatic sooo :dontknow: ...

Would be good if they dont rob too much off a 202 though because they're cheap as shit to get and like Datto said, you could run a 3.9 diff and still drive on the freeway.

Two many cylinders in the UC, just surprised its not a common conversion.

yel327 I'd use the V6 engine computer on the 202 so that could control all the operations of the trans like the lockup converter...

Let my VN V6 just roll along in the backstreets and not accelerating it got up to 30kmh.  Figured the T700/4L60 couldn't be taking much power to move it along?

How much it wastes with higher revs I don't know but I reckon that would be dependent on how worn it is.  Drove a VN V6 with a freshly rebuilt trans and you'd swear it was supercharged the way it took off!

I can get 4L60E trans's for under $200 and VT engine wiring are practically given away.

I have a spare VP V6 and trans with all the wiring.  Relatively cheap experiment?

Found this conversion kit from Dellow-

HOLDEN-6-CYLINDER-TO-HOLDEN-COMMODORE-VNhttp://dellowconvers...or-plate-kit-2/

I can't remember how big the standard bolts are?

Do these Dellow ones look beefy enough?

I wonder if this would fit up better?

If your going to go to the trouble of all the electronics then the 5 speed V6 VE box would be better (5L40) or even the 6L50 6 speed.

But the simplicity and extra gear of the early cable 700 is the attraction

Kinda defeats the purpose to use a red 6 and all that electric guff as well

Jackaroo had a 4 speed version of the trimatic 4L30

But not easily adaptable to anything

^ You can run a 4l60e on a VR/VS auto PCM without too much hassle and the options to tune it are available reasonably cheap, the later ones are starting to get into headache territory. As mentioned the earlier 700R4 is mechanically shifted and only needs converter lockup from the ECU so VN/VP will work fine and is a bit simpler.

I cannot see how a TH700 would sap as much power as a TH400, a lot of people talk about the 400 being much worse.

Do it!
