Hey Bomber, that HDT badge I had already and got it about 6 years ago, never seen another since so I was a bit astounded when that other one turned up on evilbay the day after I showed the cap to a friend

Without being too pedantic, Maloos & Coupe4s are NOT Holdens, they are HSVs. So their badges are not made by, made for, or fitted by Holden.

Those badges will be rare, especially when you consider some of the low production numbers, but they not Holden badges.

There were 2 road going HRT 427s and 4 race versions. While the road cars wore HSV badges, the racers had Holden ones.

Terry is correct, but on the surface it is a difficult distinction to make especially for HSV. HDT is easy as on paper it was a dealer setup, not affiliated with GMH on purpose (to hide it from GM's racing ban) unlike HSV which on the surface has far closer ties with Holden.

I suppose the best way to explain it is GM is the common denominator in GMH, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Holden, GMC, Buick, HSV, Opel, Daewoo etc. That doesn't mean a Rare Daewoo badge is a rare GMH badge or rare Holden badge. Holden and HSV are 2 x different brands or "tentacles" of GM. You see GM in GMC but it doesn't mean a rare GMC badge is a rare General Motors Chevrolet badge. Same deal with Toyota and Lexus, Lexus being the luxury arm of Toyota rather than the performance arm - however when you buy spares for a Lexus they often come in Toyota boxes, the Insurance is Toyota Insurance etc. The main difference is there is no T or Toyota in the Lexus name.

The coupe 4 shells had all their special mods done on the Holden line as far as I am aware. Much closer relationship than daewoo and chevrolet.
So is a RUF still a Porsche?....

Toyota Corollas were assembled in the Dandenong GMH assembly plant alongside the Holden Nova, but it doesn't mean a Corolla is a Holden or vice versa. They are essentially the same car put together in the same location but totally different brand which is what Dr Terry was getting at. Simpson and Westinghouse appliances were the same deal. A HSV is not a Holden.

While I think a badge fitted to a current model car, albeit in small production numbers is hardly rear yet. A Holden Special Vehicle is just as much a Holden as an AMG Mercedes is a Mercedes-Benz. Otherwise a Holden VN SS group A and HQ based Statesmans are left with an identity crises.

I think you'll find VL and VN Group A SS  are a "Holden" as they were built for GMH/Holden by HSV to be sold and marketed by Holden as opposed to later stuff that was marketed and sold under the HSV banner.

Holden essentially had a different meaning prior to 1987/VL where a Holden was the Holden car ie 48/215 to WB (except Statesman), so in regards to a HQ Statesman it isn't a Holden either, it a HQ Statesman. Once GMH became the Holden Motor Company a Holden was anything that company badged. Prior to that GMH sold Gemini, Sunbird, Torana, Commodore, Holden and Statesman amongst others.

It is just how it is, whether it is agreeable or liked or believed doesn't make it any less fact. Dr terry did say "to be pedantic" which I get today it can be seen that way.

That's a Mazda Badge although GMH mostly assembled the cars.

yep. it's a Mazda Badge on a Holden HJ Premier with a 13B ......   Is it a Holden with a Mazda motor?, or a Mazda with a Holden body??...  To me it's a Holden with a Mazda motor..    But I do agree that the Badge represents the Mazda marque .....   Just throwing it out there, cheers Yel ..  :)

GMH built them as a complete car, I have the special vehicle package details at home. Mazda fitted the driveline and hang on's like exhaust, tailshaft, wiring etc, and I assume the badges as well (although GMH may have fitted them for Mazda). Those guard mounted mirrors, the side lamps etc were all fitted by GMH. I'm pretty sure it'll have a GMH VIN plate and it will have a BODY plate like Bedfords and Chevy trucks - looks like a GMH one but has no GMH Lion on it.
