OK, I'll be the silly one.

Shouldn't a Jan 72 Torana be an LJ & therefore have LJ sunvisors.

I think what he means as some of the very early LJ's (Jan-Feb) carried over some of the very late LC Torana stuff, Did they not ????

Maybe  the Sun Visors ???????

All LJ Torana have the Herringbone pattern energy absorbing sunvisors and it may be possible that late 1971 LC Torana were the 1st to be fitted with the LJ Torana Herringbone pattern headliner and Herringbone sunvisors.

LC Torana normally have the Roebuck pattern sunvisors.

Well I'll be fooked, yeah Maz that looks like Herringbone (ribbed). Note your LC sunvisors are not the same construction as the LJ (energy absorbing) items.

I could have sworn the Herringbone pattern headliner first appeared in the 1971 HQ Holden.

It will suit any LC with that colour interior/headliner and matching grain vinyl.

Did this ever get sorted? Torana should have changed with or around HQ production introduction. Not release but when HQ volume production began which is around May 1971 (I'll look and get exact dates for each VAP). Existing LC stuff in the schedule would have still been used into HQ volume as it will have been procured as part of the normal scheduling, and stuff like soft trim that wasn't procured like normal parts, but made in the VAP's off material rolls would have been normally used until exhausted. I do have internal memos for HG issued early in 1971 where they state that certain trim and drivelines were either finished or restricted as HQ volume was about to begin, and in one case they have heaps of HG neutral headlining to use so that every second car of certain trim colours ordered or otherwise entered into the schedule would have XU3 (neutral headlining) applied.

LC had this happen twice to it. Firstly, at the HT-HG transition where colour and trim changed (for example Sebring to Indy Orange in both colour and trim) and again at the HG-HQ transition. This was normal though, HK trims changed with HB Torana, LH changed with HQ-HJ transition, HJ changed with LX, LX changed with HX-HZ, HZ changed with Commodore etc.

In some special cases it appears that excess trim was left over and used up on low spec or fleet vehicles. For example old HK trim ending up in HT Belmont, and I think HT trim in HG as well.

Just had a quick look. HQ volume looks to begin:

Acacia Ridge: Early June, maybe end of first week into second week.

Pagewood: Similar, maybe a bit later.

Dandenong: Maybe into 3rd week of June.

Elizabeth: Looks like last week of June.

These are rough estimates, just looking at when lots of non 000 or 2xx cars appear.

Lots of May HQ's but they are all internal cars. Dealer release was around 20th May, and there was a HQ Rodeo early June so plenty of cars around for those and for the actual public release in July.

So I imagine LC will begin to get HQ stuff in this sort of timeframe. It appears HQ engines begun to appear in LC around the last week or so of June 1971.

What I have learned since this thread was started. At LC Torana SOP the headliner and sunvisor material was Herringbone pattern in line with HT Holden trim line. eg: 82911 models had trim codes suffixed with X (40X, 41X, 42X and so on).

At HG release the headliner and sunvisor material changed to Roebuck pattern and remained through to the EOP. eg: 82911 models had trim codes suffixed with V. (40V, 41V, 42V and so on).

Some very early production LJ received LC Trim.
