It isn't strange that stuff was added early, just that the statement of compiance is later than mandated.
I didn't say it was strange that stuff was added early. Just that it was strange it took until 4/74 for GMH to add 27 to the compliance plate.

My mate sent his 74 LH, SBC 350 to be engineered and it didn't pass. He was told it will never happen with a SBC due to ADR 27. He spoke to another engineer and was told the same, it will never pass. What is the major problem with a LH Torana/SBC and this no.27?
If it will help your mate convince his engineer I could scan and email you the GMH Service Letter that details the 1973/1974 HQ ADR 27 compliant equipment for the 350 engine.

I spoke to mate and all he needs a factory emission diagram for 1974 HQ with a 350 and it can pass.
There is no real emissions diagram as far as I know - they were the same as other HQ's. Just a PCV valve, PCV breather to the aircleaner, sealed oil cap and vacuum flap on the aircleaner intake. Tell him pages 106, 195 and 200 of the May 1977 HQ parts catalogue if he can find a copy - heaps on Ebay on CD.

Not just 27 but 4A and 23 as well.

The ADR27 350 V8s also got a vacuum valve (TVS) in the top radiator hose to switch either ported or manifold vacuum to the distributor vac advance unit.
I'll see if I can dig up a diagram.

If your manifold had a spare threaded hole in it you could probably achieve what Dr Terry describes with a vacuum switch off an ADR27A/B/C 253/308 which does a similar thing.

I no my hj ute, 202, was 4% co2 at idle with only pcv valve, no aircleaner to tappet cover tube or carbon canister, I think I got it down too around 2% after a tune

This must have been modified, 2% is still a bit rich. It must have a lumpy cam.
Also all HJs (6 & V8) had the rocker cover to air cleaner vent tube from the factory.

I think that only shows the early HQ 350 engine.

Looks like Torana got it earlier.

They would have got it from the start of production or close to it. Probably why they waited in HQ until LH volume started.
