I know they are not "SL/E " rims but UC SL/E had them. They are not "SL/E" rims. They are Rally rims, they replaced the steel rally rims used on HQ-early HZ, normally had option code N67. Optional in various sizes and stud patterns on almost all Holden, Gemini and Torana and even seen on Statesman. Standard on Sandman, Gypsy, GTS, SL/E, VB Euro pack etc.

Yeah, you could "option up" the lesser models in the LX's.
I had a 12/77 LX SL 4.2lt Auto that was optioned up with the;
Sports dash,
SS one piece spoiler,
heated rear window,
Dual Exhaust,
SLR Wheel Trims and
H4 Headlights

I wasn't 100% sure about the options for combined instruments in the bigger Torana so refrained from making comment.
I had a 1977 LX Torana 'S' 4-Door 4.2 V8 4 Speed and it had a Factory SLR Tacho and Speedo etc. when I bought the Car from Motors Burnie, a young bloke owned it but his Parents bought it for him from brand knew and it was ordered with the SLR Tacho and Speedo etc, Even had a twin system.

I have spoken to a few people that optioned up there S or SL toranas to save on paying higher insurance premiums that a sports model would have cost them. cheers Aaron
That seems to be a common theme in the 70's. There are a fair number of non-Sandman, non-GTS sedan, non-GTS coupe Holdens in L31 M21 guise (like Kingswood sedan, ute or even HQ Monaro (Kingswood coupe)), the primary reason seems to be Insurance was a LOT cheaper on these. I imagine the L31 non-SLR's Mick is alluding to were for the same reason.

Yes there was a Chevrolet 1700 very similar to LJ, not sure if it was built in South Korea though.
I'll say Fact but don't really know.
I wonder if that is where the left handed variants were produced?

I call bullshit on this one !!
I realise about the blunder concerning the height of the from blinker being too low, (12-15mm IIRC), & this was for all versions the LH. So really this was only important for the lowest height cars in the range, maybe the SL/R & the SL/R5000. But was the L34 this same low height ?
I don't have its official overall height spec. handy, but is the L34 as low as a regular SL/R given its 14-inch wheels & heavy duty springs.
The front spoiler tooling would've been based on the 'normal' SL/R5000 item.
Dr Terry
The original post is fiction and Dr Terry's call is correct. The original error in blinker height was detected prior to SOP and the shape of the blinker lens was modified to effectively raise the front face and so meet the ADR requirement. The attachment location was then raised after SOP as you all know. Holden would not knowingly release a vehicle into production that did not meet ADR.

You know what, I have never thought about what Dr Terry mentioned about ride heights and he may well be correct. To be honest I'm not that worried if I was wrong. The original post is fiction and Dr Terry's call is correct. The attachment location was then raised after SOP as you all know. Holden would not knowingly release a vehicle into production that did not meet ADR.
You do have me interested in what you say about the blinker lense shape change / modification. How did the lense change?? Never heard that before. Can you fill me in on how that happened and when?

I thought GMH fixed the front indicator issue on the LH Torana by raising the mounting height of the indicator assy on the valance panel during production of the LH?

I wouldn't be surprised if all LHD HK-HG Holdens and LHD Toranas were produced at one of the GMH plants in a LHD Country. I think they had a plant in the Philippines and maybe Korea which are both LHD. If not maybe one of the Asian RHD countries that assembled GMH product like Thailand or Malaysia. The LHD HK-HG's that went to Hawaii and parts of Europe (maybe Greece) may well have come from Asia.

Holden, at varying times in their history had CKD assembly plants in New Zealand, Sth Africa, The Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan & Trinidad & Tobago.
All these plants are now long gone, but more recently there was one set up in China to assemble the late model Statemans & Caprices as the Buick Park Avenue.
The Sth Korean Shinjin/Saehan/Daewoo project was not controlled by GM-H, but they did supply tooling etc. Most of the driveline was not Holden stuff as it would've been in all of their CKD plants.
