I know it is splitting hairs Al but XU-II is different to XU2. I heard Leo say that too, but in 1972 the LH wouldn't be all that far from being nailed as a design so i'm not surprised they tried upcoming LH stickers on an LJ. Geez that Zmood styling drawing looks like an LJ/HQ/LH hybrid though!

Is that grainy B&W XU1 Barney?

Mick, found it. The Bulletin is dated 25/10/78 BUT it does say from 1/9/78 the Q sequence will reset to 1001 and a Z used. However this has to mean that engines completed from this date (or this predicted date) at the Fisherman's bend facility would be Z prefix. However I can guarantee you that they don't start to appear in cars that I have recorded until at least 6-10 weeks later. Unfortunately Service/Warranty reports finish mid June 1978 otherwise we could find some by their 4 digit numbers. It is also possible given the nature of the schedule and how engine numbers appear all over the place that the odd Z will appear earlier especially for high volume engines like a 202HC. Engines were supplied to each assembly plant according to the schedule, but the assembly plants appear to open the crates and dress them in a random fashion so the odd one could conceivably be found in earlier cars.

Hi Byron,

I just found that bulletin..

did youo see the part about the Torana engine number being prefixed with the 'X'?

cheers

Mick

I take Phil Zmood Design Drawing as XU2 (XU11) as it does not mean XUEleven  (XU11)

Just Saying.

Leo said the LH XU2 name was Rehashed by Styling when he was in Detroit working, and he was not happy about it been done on the LH Model when he came back, might explain why it was removed.

We be awesome when Leo ever unleashes the Photos of the LJ V8's with the XU2 Decals on them, my guess it will be the 3-LJ GTR Prototypes with XU2 Decals on them on the Turning Circle like the Grainy B&W Photo of Barney Shirt, Fingers Crossed that Leo unleashes the Photos one day.

We will have to agree to disagree as they say on the XU2 Name.

AL

I always thought the V8 XU-1 was going to be called GTR XU-1 V8 ........  because XU-2 had already been designated to a Bedford Truck ..

Glass is the same but HQ-WB longer at the bottom. I think HD-HG are the same.

XU3 was actually neutral headlining for HG and HQ. It was re-allocated for HJ Sandman in 1975. XU4 was the next one used for passenger tyres on HJ commercials.

They are just option codes and they just get used in order. You can tell roughly when they were allocated by others around them eg XW7 and XW8. From memory XU2 was to be used for a Bedford but was pulled back for Torana.

Not sure about HG but I know HJ commercials came with a 173 or 202 as standard.

I'm gonna say fact.

I'm tipping fact. I'm pretty sure I've read on here that late HG's had 202's. I know a friend that had a sedan with one when the car was near new.

Pretty sure Dr Terry or Yel backed this up.
