HG utes came factory fitted with 202s.
Fact(ory) or Fiction?
Fact. From HQ introduction the HG commercial vehicle range was upgraded to the 202 and 173 HC & LC engines

Correct. Late HG commercials (July 71 onwards) have 173 std & the 202 optional. These cars have an AHG prefix to their chassis number.
The engine numbers themselves are prefixed GD, GE, GL & GM, for the 173 hi/lo & 202 hi/lo-comp versions.
In HJ the 202 became standard for all Kingswoods, so the Kingwood ute got the 202 as standard. The (base) Holden commercials still had the 173 std & the 202 optional.

Dr Terry is spot on. 202 and discs became standard on HJ Holden ute and van around 3/76 (already standard on Kingswood ute). Probably also became standard on Belmont sedan and wagon at the same time. Roughly in line with LX Torana release I think, probably about the same time the LX Torana colours were added to HJ Holden.

Hi Byron,
I just found that bulletin..
did youo see the part about the Torana engine number being prefixed with the 'X'?
cheers
Mick
Yes. I've never been sure exactly why they only did it for the auto engines (ie used a Holden engine) and kept a Torana engine for the manual cars. I know the ADR27A auto engines are significantly more powerful in Holden spec than the manual engine (different cam) but as to why they kept the Torana sequence and H prefix for manual engines is unknown.

It isn't a really late one, these were made until at around 10/71. The late ones had an A in front of the HG. That is a HQ engine number in it too.

From the latest unique cars mag. (Hope you can read it) It includes a photo of 202 badge on HG tailgate.

What is interesting about this one isn't that it has a 202 but that its chassis number isn't AHG, at least on the ADR plate. Not sure why it has a QL 202 either, seems very suss! All other ones have GL engine numbers, but this could be one of those weirdo things that crop up.

Hmmmm, 7 months between manufacture and retail sale.
Perhaps the Dealer used it as a demonstrator and the 186P (or GL 202 if it was actually fitted with one ex factory) got blown up so a QL long was thrown in as a replacement.

Orangeade?
The ones listed are probably the most common but I'm sure there's more.

There are also fleet orange colours that Toranas could well exist in. Two I can think of are 1816 Tangerine (or Turnpike Orange) and Light Orange. I don't have the paint code for Light Orange as a whole of body colour, only as 2469 which is Palais over Light Orange.

See, it isn't an orange-ish colour, it's just a figment of your imagination.

I can't see the document clearly but does the engine number actually say QL? Or is it GL?
