I've been meaning to watch the series again but I'm almost certain that at some stage someone mentioned that Ted's Kingswood was a V8?
I know they said he bought it new in 1971, which means it could be either a HG or a HQ, and I don't think they ever actually showed the car, but I always assumed it was a 253 auto HQ Kingswood sedan for some reason?
With personalised plates "TB007" if I remember correctly.
