I always loved the look of bare metal and that silver is just about the closest you could get (without it turning brown shortly after)!

Looks awesome, Aaron. Now the real fun begins, there's nothing like the feeling of bolting things on for the last time.

Are you not doing any blackouts?

Thanks Andrew
I had made my mind up for years on Silver Mink but changed it after seeing a few Monaro’s in person & it was only up until a couple of months before the Hatchback went to paint I had made my final decision.
Choosing a different silver was the hardest decision I had but very happy with the Silver PPG paint.

I’m soo looking forward to piecing it back together

Not doing flares, Not doing blackouts, Not doing it like anyone else’s

Cheers Aaron

Update Time
After applying the satin black KBS to the whole underside of the Hatchback I wasn’t happy with the finished colour being more like a semi gloss finish so I decided to apply the Septone stone guard as I did with the wheel wells... a true satin black

Much better finish that I was looking for

What month in 1977 is the hatch Aaron? I'm just trying to get a handle on when the Torana range got the A9X style trailing arm pivot points. Is it August?

While I had the diff out as I was painting the underbody I gave the diff as well as the upper & lower control arms a lick of paint.

Gave the fuel lines & brake line a little love as well
I bought two hatches in pieces " one got stolen '

I really wanted the original look of the  hard lines for the fuel, brake and all the other smaller lines on the car,

but didn't get any with either car.

Love the original look, your car looks great.

G’day Viewers
After moving house I’ve finally found some time for another update, when I purchased the Hatchback it came with a 253 from a early commodore & was going to be used until I built a healthy 308 although plans get changed over time and the 253 was sold & a 308 Motor was sourced. Being at the right place at the right time I purchased the very early HP 308 motor that had a lot of work done, it still ran its original early pre pollution big valve heads that have been very nicely ported,
The heart of the Hatchback gets its turn with the block bored to 40 thou, new pistons, rings, bearings, Crow Cam & springs as well as the heads being reconditioned.

Be careful when using early 253/308 heads. They are missing some of the accessory holes in the ends. You may not have been using the holes before but bad time to find out when putting back together.

Thanks for the heads up Yel327,
The motor was mostly complete with accessories when I purchased it years ago + the old rev head retired bloke was a wealth of knowledge, the best piece of mind was that this motor was in his Torana many years ago.

For piece of mind compare them to HQ-HJ heads, on the ends.

G’day Viewers
Time to get the heart together,
The engine was balanced & put together at the shop and all accessories were completed at home.
