G’day Laurie
The motors cast date has is E249 @ 8 o’clock
This engine didn’t have any of the original parts… manifold, water pump or timing chain cover-so no it didn’t have a timing chain tensioner.

It'd definitely have had one originally Laurie, 1969 block for certain had them.

G’day Viewers
Absolutely loving these stages of the build, so satisfying rebuilding components & reinstalling them.

Gave the heater fan & duct a spruce up to match the booster & master cylinder colour combo & replaced all the foams for all vents as well as purchasing a new heater core from Resto Country.

So good! Yep, I found this stage of my car really enjoyable as well.

Car work where you don't even have to be wearing dirty work clothes is nice, lol.

Cheers Aaron

Exciting times with the heart going back into the Hatchback, a huge shout out to Tony Natoli, Marcus & his old man for their great help dropping the engine & box in without a scratch.

I hate lowering motors in with those horrible chinese jacks. You have to be sooo carefull when turning the release screw to let it down. Two hands on the handle the whole time.

That's why I bought a Crown MT walkie stacker. They are 1960's tech, you can buy them cheap as chips (especially if the batteries are flat), and they use 4 x 6V FJ Holden batteries. Even a good working one is like $2000 max.

Certainly take up a lot less room than a forklift when you aren't using it.

Yes, they are awesome. Floor space wise they take up less than a hydraulic engine lifter, just park them under a pallet. 20MT (or MT20):

I hate lowering motors in with those horrible chinese jacks. You have to be sooo carefull when turning the release screw to let it down. Two hands on the handle the whole time.

If you have one of the cheapo China engine cranes, like most people do, you can stick a proper handle on that release screw.

Or stick a bush in the end of the arm so it locates positively, and weld a radial arm onto the arm. Both of these things will give you much nicer progression/control of the lowering process.
I hate shit tools that fit together poorly. But everything can be fixed with a lathe and a welder.

Car is looking good.

That's a familiar face!

G’day Viewers
Can’t believe time has passed so quickly since the post,
I purchased some tri bar headlights with the inbuilt indicator that I rewired to have the parker light all will LED globes, the front grill I purchased a new unit with chrome mouldings, seeing the grill comes as a raw form I painted it in a style that’s different to the typical way.

I was wondering how you were going with this Aaron. I reckon the paint on the horizontal bars look good, They will stand out more once a black radiator is behind them.  Harry Firth stuck some tape on the SL/R 5000 grille at one event. It looked like a totally different car.

Looks nice, I always like white, siler or yellow with the minor red accents like SS badges/transfers, GTS badges, red wall tyres etc (anything but stripes!)(I'd also have had chrome bars but that is just my taste). Just wondering, the rego plate thingy's, did they have holes/slots in them standard? I recall my hatchback had slots in the bottom of them? From memory the bottom holes in the plates aligned with the slots.

I believe they had a slot in the bottom of them, standard. That slot was designed to line up with the lower bolt holes of a full-sized number plate if I recall correctly.

Great progress! Very exciting stage.

Removing the bolts on the bumpers is tidy. :)

Red certainly stands out against the Silver, The number plate taps have been replaced although i'll have to drill and tap some bolt for the plate,

G’day Viewers
Got some brand new tail lights and pieced them together and installed them with all new seals and wiring harness, I thought the factory silver lights would look a bit much but they blend in perfectly.
