G'day Tony
The Hatch was stripped down to bare metal in just a few weeks and etch primed - it's not at the rate the thread is going otherwise it would be a nice golden brown hue....ha ha , I'm just stretching the shit out of the thread so it can to slowly catch up to where I'm at present.
Stay tuned people

Cheers Aaron

G'day all

Another update of the Hatch -  the body is just about all bare metal ready for a etch prime.

Finally found a set of wheels that were good enough for the hatch that didn't have any gutter marks or dings from pot holes, these had been sitting in a shed for around 10 years or so, untouched original set - they still have the factory wire and plate behind the centre cap, not bad for a few hundred bucks.

Awesome man.. wish I had this kinda dedication and motivation lol

Thanks Jase

As you know these builds take alot of patience & i've learn't over the years of building a few cars to walk away and take a break then come back to it.

I noticed your build has been in the making for a few years but hey all good things take time mate & i've stopped putting a timeline on my build seeing i seem to jinx myself and that timeline comes & goes - it'll be done when its done now !!

Found some more pics of the doors and hinges i've restored.

I purchased the door hinge repair kit from Discount Restoration Parts that have brass hinge bushes instead of the nylon factory bushes, the only thing i'm not 100% happy with is the hinge pin with the spline not directly under the top cap so this will interfere with the brass bush.

These guys guarantee all there items and will cover all return costs ( not many people do this at all ) So the pins are going back for a refund, my original pins are still in good working order and are used instead of the newby's.

Maybe a newer red than a factory Torana colour that's been done many times over - I'm trying to build at Hatch that looks different to all the rest which is a challenge but hey that's just me mate, I've build my Hatch in my head quite a few times over and I know exactly how I want it to look.

Greg from Classic Oz Wreck helped me out with a rear cut section to replace the Ugly & i purchased a complete lower rear beaver panel from Aussie Resto's.

Hey Mav

Yeah what a dodgy repair - i'd like to Bitchslap the wally who did it but hey what's done is done -  i know it's going  to be repaired properly by my mate Resto John. I've had to wait about 9 months or more for John to finish off other cars but finally my Hatch is going into the master in late February. "  Sweet "

G'day Heath

Looks nasty i know but John's not worried even with the centre of the rear pushed in about 10mm.

Hi Stuart

Thanks Mate, even though there has been tons of builds here on Hatchbacks there all done differently in some way or another, it's always good to here that you've helped out someone else.

G'day Garth

I'm happy with the quality of the rear beaver panel from Aussie Resto's - not bad at all for the price.

Here's a few more pics of the panel

G'day Guys

Another update on the Hatch,

It's time to strip the paint from the underside the of the bonnet - something i've been putting off for a while & dreading to do but after talking to Matt ( LH SLR 3300 ) at Toranafest he gave me a few tips which made a big difference on tackling the job....Thanks Mate

Hey Matt
Your advice was very useful & effective & I said to myself why didn't I think of that...but hey it's all about helping each other out no matter if it's seeing someone else's build to get motivation or good advice.
Reading you build thread motivates me to get the hatch ready for my mate to resto...

Cheers Az
